BARBERVILLE, FL – December 4, 2009 — The Convention Holiday Classic, featuring Florida DIRTcar Racing returns Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12 to Volusia Speedway Park.
Friday night’s program showcases open wheel dirt racing featuring Florida’s Top Gun Sprint Car Series, Florida Mini-Sprints, and UMP DIRTcar Modifieds on track for high speed thrills. NASCAR star Ken Schrader has confirmed that he will be visiting the Volusia ½-mile to compete with the local stars on Friday night in a UMP DIRTcar Modified. Top Gun Sprint Cars will be gunning for a $1000 first place check as will the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds.
Saturday night will feature full fender racing with Volusia’s own Florida DIRTcar Late Model drivers hitting the dirt for door-to-door battle with $2,500 on the line for the winner, accompanied by UMP DIRTcar Sportsman tackling the monster half-mile oval for a shot at the $1,000 checkered flag.
Volusia Speedway is proud to be a part of the Toys for Tots program in Volusia County. Marine Corps Reserve Units, located throughout the nation, conduct toy collection and distribution campaigns in their local communities each year. Caring Americans drop off new, unwrapped toys at collection receptacles located in local businesses. As Christmas nears, Marines distribute toys themselves and enlist the aid of local social welfare agencies and churches to distribute toys to needy children on Christmas Day. The ultimate success of the program depends on the support of the local community and the generosity of the people who donate toys.
Adult grandstand admission for each night of the Convention Holiday Classic is $20. Fans can take advantage of special savings by donating a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots. Admission with a toy donation, PRI show badge, or coupon will be just $15. Coupons can be obtained at Daytona Dodge Chrysler.
Pit admission is $25 -- $22 for DIRTcar members.
Pit gates open at 4:30 pm, grandstand gates open at 5:30 pm and racing starts at 7:30 pm.
Santa Claus has been contacted and is planning to be at Volusia Speedway on both nights to visit with the children.
Don’t forget to stop by the World Racing Group booth (#1823) at the Performance Racing Industry trade show at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., to see what’s ahead for the 2010 season, plus pick up a coupon for a free beer at Volusia Speedway during the Convention Holiday Classic.
