SS Green Light Racing Driver Set to Secure Series Championship | SS Green Light Racing Media
The 2009 ASA Late Model Series South Division season will conclude on Saturday October 3rd with “The Best Show In Town 100” at the Charlotte County Motorsports Park in Punta Gorda, FL. SS Green Light Racing’s Drew Brannon leads Dustin Dunn by 120 points headed into Saturday’s final race.
16-year old native of Miami, who visited victory lane at CCMP at the season opener in March, looks to capture his first career ASA Late Model Series South Division title at what he considers his home track. In addition to his victory this spring, Drew has several wins in the Fastruck series at the three-eighths mile speedway. “It’s great that we’re finishing the season at Charlotte County, it’s only a couple hours from home and we have a lot of family and friends coming this weekend.
“I don’t feel a lot of pressure with the way the points are we basically need to take the green flag to win the Championship. I can race, have fun and try to win without worrying about the points.” Said Brannon. “I felt at the beginning of the year we had a shot at winning the South title and we’ve had a great year, I’m so happy for everyone to make that happen.”
Back in March, the Florida teen lead over three-quarters of the laps and won the “Real Diehl 100” in his first race in the SS Green Light team’s potent late model fielded by three-time ASA National Series Champion Butch Miller. “We didn’t have a very good car that first race, but we came out with a victory,” Miller said. “The whole team has learned an awful lot together since then and we should be better this weekend.”
Winning the ASA South division title will be the first Championship for the SS Green Light team as well, “We try to set realistic and attainable goals each year. To be in position to win the South Division Championship is way more than we expected,” Miller said. “I’m real proud of this team, proud of Drew and I hope to be able to use this as a springboard to bigger an better things in the future.”
Brannon and the ASI Limited, Spectrum Metal Finishing, Akzo Nobel No. 08 team has three victories in the ASALM South Division this year, as well as two in the Challenge Division. Drew also won three features during Speedweeks, bringing his season win total to eight.
The ASA Late Model South Division “The Best Show in Town 100" takes place on Saturday, October 3rd. Qualifying will be at 5:30. Practice for the ASA competitors is at 10:00am along with an open practice session on Friday evening.
