BIG Night at Volusia this Saturday - You Won't Want to Miss It | by Jane Smith
Barberville, FL (July 14, 2009) This Saturday, July 18th, will be one EXCITING night at Volusia Speedway Park as it is KIDS BOX CAR RACES. Yes kids, it will be your night to shine on the half mile oval. So get those Box Cars ready and come and race at Volusia Speedway Park.
Also it is "D" Night at Volusia where all residents, with ID showing proof of their residence, from DeLand, Debary, Deltona and DeLeon Springs get in FREE. Not only will you be entertained by the KIDS BOX CAR races but also see the Late Models, Sportsman, Thunder Stocks, 4 Cylinder Challengers and Street Stocks in action. Street Stocks will run for a special purse of $500 to win so you can be assured there will be plenty of Street Stocks in the field.
Going into Saturday night's events it is Lawton Minchew leading the Late Model points followed by Stanton Mills, Darell Padgett, Richard Ferry and last week's feature winner Joe Kump. Kump won his first feature in 2009 and is looking now for the second win.
Shaun Daugharty leads the Sportsman division followed by Garret Stewart, Steve Shead, Alan Peacock, and Aaron Barsness. Ronnie Ponce won last Saturday night and will be back in action this Saturday night.
Grady Christian has had an outstanding year and put yet another win under his belt last Saturday. With $500 on the line, you can be assured that Christian will give it his all to win that money. Following Grady in points is Charlie Macnichol, Bubba Christian, Steve Mooers and Phil Brown.
Thunder Stocks are starting to grow in numbers each time they race. Last week fans got to see Donnie Nobles run his first race and take his first rollover as he rolled right on the frontstretch in front of all the fans. Nobles was fine but it is going to take some time to clean the mud out of his car. Leading the points for the Thunder Stocks is Scott Mooers followed by Richard Calmes, James Sullivan, III, Robert Schrunk, and Matthew Schell.
Tony Laporta has been the winner of most all the 4 Cylinder Challengers races but announced last week that he will be gone for awhile and probably won't win the Championship. But for now, it is Laporta who leads the points over Danny Lunn, Gilbert Epsy, RJ Glaser and Davey Wolf.
Pit gate opens at 4:30 with grandstand opening at 5:30. Racing starts at 7:30. General admission for adults is $10.00, students 11 -15 $5.00, children 10 and under FREE. Drive in parking is $10.00.
And REMEMBER if you are from DeLand, Debary, Deltona or DeLeon Springs, you can get in FREE with proper ID to prove your residence.
