January 21, 2009 Volusia Speedway Park Heats Up This Weekend with "January Jump-Start" BARBERVILLE, FL – January 21, 2009 — By Tonya Moschell Cooler temps will fade away this weekend when Volusia Speedway Park heats things up for the start of the 2009 racing season. Volusia Speedway Park will is hosting the “January Jump-Start” this Friday, Saturday and Sunday featuring $2500 to win main events for the DIRTcar Sportsman and DIRTcar Street Stock divisions. Open Practice for all classes kicks off the January Jump-Start weekend on Friday, January 23. Many racers are planning to take advantage of this opportunity to test on the South’s Fastest ½ Mile including Late Model competitors who are not part of the scheduled weekend program. Pits will open at 5:00pm with practice running from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Pit admission is $15. Grandstand admission will be free for the practice night. Competition starts on Saturday, January 24, with pit gates opening at 4:30pm. Grandstand gates open at 5:30pm. Racing starts at 7:30pm featuring the DIRTcar Sportsman and DIRTcar Street Stock qualifying heat races plus full programs for Thunder Stocks, 4-Cylinder Challengers, and Mini-Stocks. Mini-Stocks will race for $500 to win, Thunder Stocks for $350 to win and 4-Cylinder Challengers will be chasing a $250 winner’s check. Sportsman and Street Stocks will be working on starting positions for Sunday’s 40-lap Main Events paying $2500 each to win. Racing action continues on Sunday, January 25 with consolation races and the 40-lap main events for the DIRTcar Sportsman and DIRTcar Street Stock divisions. In addition, DIRTcar Modifieds are in action with a full program ending in a 30-lap, $1000 to win main event. Pit and Grandstand gates will open at noon on Sunday with racing starting at 2:00pm. Adult grandstand admission is $12 for each night of racing. A special $20 Adult 2-day ticket can be purchased on Saturday night. Students ages 11-15 will be admitted for $6 each night and children ages 10 and under will be admitted free. Drive-in parking is $10 per car – 2 day drive-in parking pass is $15.
