Volusia Speedway Park and Ocala Speedway to Host Florida State Late Model All-Star Championship Weekend | United Dirt Late Models 2009 Schedule Finalized

The 2009 United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series schedule was originally issued in early October. Since then there have been several changes, some major additions and one huge new event that appear in the final release.
In late October, southern dirt late model fans will be treated to a super weekend when the UDLMCS in partnership with Ocala Speedway and Volusia Speedway Park (VSP) hold the Florida State Late Model All-Star Championship. The two day show, Friday at Ocala and Saturday at Volusia will not only showcase the top dirt late model racers in the south but two of the Sunshine State's finest racing facilities.
"I can't tell you how excited I am about this weekend at these two awesome Florida tracks", Series Promoter Ken Kinney said recently.
A $5000 UDLMCS Bonus Points Fund for top performers has been set for race teams at the two day event, coming at a time when the final run to the 2009 Championship is expected to be at fever pitch. Although many of the of details are not worked out at this stage, VSP General Manager Tonya Moschell is excited. "This will be a cooperative effort with Ocala and Mike Peters and I'm looking forward to working with Ken and Mike again. It makes really good sense for us to do this giant late model event, it will be huge," she stated in an interview last week.
According to UDLMCS Race Director Billy Ausburn "These two different styles of race tracks offer a good challenge for the drivers. Can someone win both races, well yes they can, but it won't be easy." Ausburn joined the series as Race Director late in 2008 and is very familiar with both tracks, having held the job at both last year. "It's good for the racers and it will be awesome for the fans, some will be good on the small track and some will be good on the big track" he said.
The combined purse for the two nights of racing will exceed $30,000, leading up to the $10,000 to win 2nd Annual Kim Allen Memorial season finale at the Hendry County Motorsports Park. The speedway is getting a complete makeover in 2009, having been recently purchased by the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series.
There are three other two-day shows on the 19 race schedule. In April the series travels to Penton Speedway and East Alabama Motor Speedway for back to back shows. In 2008 Mark Whitener won first prize at East Alabama, and this will be the first trip for the UDLMCS to Penton Speedway.
In the middle of May the series makes a Friday-Saturday stop at two first time venues, Oglethorpe Speedway (near Savannah) and then up the road to Screven Motor Speedway. Fans will recall the 2008 race at Screven was cancelled due to the extreme gasoline shortage in the Peach State.
In mid July Deep South Speedway in Loxley, Alabama hosts a Friday event paying $2500 to win a Saturday night show paying $3000 to win.
