November 9, 2008 Randy Korte Wins, Smith Steals the Show and the Locomotive is Crowned Champion UDLMCS Media Johnny Collins is the Champion of the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series for 2008. The Jacksonville driver's 5th place finish at East Bay Raceway Park Saturday night was enough to pad his lead over runner-up Mark Whitener (Middleburg FL). Josh Peacock (Dover, FL) won the United Dirt Late Model Rookie of the Year title. Peacock, winner of the last race at East Bay, had a rough night, bringing home the #21P in 17th position. Randy Korte (Highland, IL) took the 60 lap, $5000 to win feature event by holding off #42 Marshall Austin, Jr (Plant City, FL) in a fierce mid-race battle, putting him in the right place when Keith Nosbisch's car faded late in the race. While Doug Horton took third, the big story was "Showtime" Shan Smith. Smith elected to start in the rear of the 24 car field with a chance to win the $3000 bonus plus the winner's purse. By lap 25 Smith was in the 8th spot, and at lap 40 he passed Clay Bedenbaugh for 4th, where he finished the race knocking down the Central Mobile Homes Hard Charger Award. Tyler Ivey took the Zeigler Racing Engines Fast Qualifier Award. Fourty-six teams came to vie for the 24 starting spots in a combined UDLMCS and NLMS event. Heats, B-Mains and 6o lap Feature of UDLMCS race at East Bay. With Joe Linebarier, Terry Caton and Rick Anges Jack Nosbisch won the first B Main brought to you by DoughBoy Signs. Doug Horton won the Tommy's Towing B Main number two. David Clegg took the Bruce's Signs B Main number three. A big surprise on race day as Roger Crouse lost his ride driving the #32, Phillip Cobb now has that ride. Crouse was able to get into a Mathews race car and carried the new number of 32C.
