Volusia Speedway Park Hosts 3rd Annual Scott Thompson Memorial | Real Racin USA Media
Hopefully all the drivers and crews of the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series have recovered from the "Golden Isles Marathon". What a night of racing at the Georgia speedway, lasting until well into the night.
Now the sights are set on Volusia Speedway Park on July 19th for the running of the 3rd Annual Scott Thompson Memorial.
Tonya Moschell, General Manager at the track, is very clear about how big an event this is for Florida race fans: "I think the most important thing for everyone to understand is that this will be the biggest late model race on dirt in Florida this season. They definitely do not want to miss this and if they pick one event this summer to attend, this is it".
"It is our Scott Thompson Memorial event, and we have been able to combine the efforts of the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series and the National Late Model Series to bring to Volusia Speedway what promises to be the biggest late model event of the season, in Florida or in the southeast for that matter." That according to Moschell.

Scott Thompson was an enormously popular racer; he was the Volusia Speedway Park Late Model Track Champion in 2005,and was competing for 2006 National Late Model Series Rookie of the Year. He tragically lost his life in May of that year, in a non-racing related auto accident.
Qualifying begins at 7:15 PM on Saturday the 19th of July and then the program will unfold from there with heats, and several B-mains. With the fields averaging well over 40 cars for each event, (Golden Isles and Ocala had 53 teams), just making the feature at this race is going to be a challenge.
The local Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and 4 Cylinder divisions will also be running. "We couldn't be more thrilled, I just wish it was happening tomorrow", Moschell said a few weeks ago.
The Scott Thompson Memorial will be a points race for not only the UDLMCS, but also for the local Volusia Daytona Dodge-Chrysler Late Model Division as well as the National Late Model Series.
The 50 lap event will pay $3800 to the winner with a $380 check for the leader of lap 38 in honor of the number Scott Thompson ran on his race car.
