Wayne Anderson Gets the Win at Charlotte County | By Phil Schryver - KARNAC Media
Port Charlotte, FL (June 15th 2008) - Saturday night brought the Super Late Models back to Charlotte County Motorsports Park for a 100 Lap feature event. Rain fell throughout the early afternoon, so qualifying had to be canceled and pills were drawn for starting positions. 14 cars were on hand for the event.
The 184 of Randy Anderson started on the pole, with the #19 of Kevin Macy starting 2nd. The #8 of Sean LeMaster started 3rd, and the #38 of C.J. Calabrese started 4th.
When the green flag dropped, the 184 of Anderson jumped out in front for the lead, followed by the #19 of Macy, and the #8 of LeMaster 3rd. Coming out of turn 4 on the 1st lap, the #8 of LeMaster got real loose, but was able to hang onto it, until lap 5, when the #8 lost control on the back stretch and collided with #28 of Billy Bigley Jr.
The #38 of Calabrese actually went up on the wall and slid before colliding with the #8 and #28. The #8 of LeMaster caught on fire, but was quickly put out by the safety crew. All of the drivers were ok, but their night was done.
When the green flag was waved again, the #19 of Macey was the new leader, followed by the 84 of Anderson, the #77 of Patrick Williams in 3rd. On lap 10, the 184 started dropping back, putting the #77 of Williams in 2nd, and Wayne Anderson up to 3rd.
By lap 20, the #84 of Anderson was up to 2nd and putting pressure on the #19 to try to take the lead away, when all of a sudden, the #77 of Williams gets loose and spins out over in turns 1 & 2. This would be the 2nd caution of the night.
On lap 24, the #84 of Anderson is able to get by the #19 of Macey to take over the lead, Scott Walters in the #55 was also able to get by to take over 2nd.
After 2 more yellows, the #84 of Anderson and the #55 of Walters had a strong battle going on for the lead, Wilson was doing everything he could to get by Anderson, without spinning him out.
By Lap 35, the #77 of Williams was back up to 3rd, after being sent to the rear earlier for bringing out a caution.
Between laps 75 and 85, there was a heated battle going on for the 5th position between the #19 of Macy, and the #46 of JR Garcia. JR had a faster car, but the 19 was able to hold him off till lap 85, when Garcia was able to pass him on the outside.
With the laps winding down, things really started to heat up, when on lap 87, the #77 of Williams, and the #51 of Richie Anderson, get together going into turn 1. Both cars were sent to the rear for bringing out the yellow. The #77 of Williams got very upset and ended up parking his car. He even came out to the flag stand to speak with the flagman about the call.
On the restart, Wayne Anderson in the #84 was still the leader, followed by Walters in the 55, and JR Garcia in the #46, was now up to 3rd.
With only 10 laps to go, the 55 of Walters really turned the heat onto Anderson, but Wayne was able to hold him off and bring home the win.
