Lake City, FL (March 2, 2008) - Columbia Motorsports Park opens it's 2008 season with a bang, full grandstands and an exciting night of racing for the FAN APPRECIATION night. With 2,000 fans packed into the stands and cars parked everywhere, if you did not have a seat, you weren't going to find one Saturday night.
Sportsman fans saw an exciting race between Jeff Prescott and Charlie Seroki who looked like they were glued together in the final ten laps of the race. On lap 18, Seroki got along side of Prescott and on lap 19, Seroki took the lead. On the final lap as Seroki took the checkered, Prescott crossed the finish line with his engine skipping.
Pure Stocks saw Chris Brown on the pole but it was Bobby Johnson who stole the show and took the lead all the way to the checkered.
Doc Batson worked his way thru the field and by lap 6 was shown second. The #57 car had his brakes lock up and slammed head on into the retaining wall on the frontstretch.
By lap 14, Batson and John Roling were glued together as they found for second and third place. Johnson crossed the checkered taking the win followed by Doc Batson and John Roling.
Although the Super Late Model class may have been lacking in cars, it was the most exciting race of the night. There was a #158, #58 John Coffman, #50 Eddie Gainey, #88 Jimmy Andrews, and #57 with Jason Garver behind the wheel substituting for regular driver Doyle Boatwright who was out of town. Gainey started on the pole followed by Garver, #158, Coffman and Andrews.
On lap 3, Coffman hit the wall and found himself out of the race before really beginning. Gainey and Garver battled for the lead with Gainey holding Garver off. Closing in on Gainey and Garver was the #158 with Andrews following. By lap 8, #158 had closed in on Gainey and Garver and by lap 10, the lead belonged to #158 followed by Garver in second and Gainey in third.
On lap 14, Garver showed his muscle taking over the lead as Gainey and #158 were left fighting for second. Gainey took over second followed by #158. By lap 18, #158 passed Gainey and was looking towards Garver for the lead. Garver held the point as #158 was all over the rear taking the checkered for the first Super Late Model race of the year.
At the end of the Super Late Model race, there was not a fan sitting still as Garver crossed the checkered to a loud roar from the stands.
This Saturday night, March 8, at Columbia Motorsports Park will be the Central Florida Wingless Sprints, Sportsman, Pure Stocks, V-8 Bombers and Hornets. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
