Travis Cope to Make Super Late Model Debut at Desoto
Media Release
A little over a year ago Travis Cope made his stock car racing debut at Desoto Super Speedway. With 3 career wins in his first season with the FASCAR Goodyear Challenge Series, the rookie Cope is stepping up to the next level this weekend as he prepares to make his Super Late Model debut in the first leg of the Sunbelt Triple Crown series hosted at none other than Desoto Super Speedway.
Cope will be powering the #10 Crystal Chevrolet/ Grubbs Emergency Services Monte Carlo, owned by Gary Grubbs.
“I am grateful to have Gary Grubbs offer me the opportunity to compete in my first super late model show,” said Cope. “With the backing from Grubbs Emergency Services and the knowledge I have gathered from working with my dad on these race cars, I believe as a rookie, we can be a strong competitor in the three events of the prestigious Triple Crown.”
Not only will this prove to be the first race for Cope in the Super Late model, but it also will be the first time he competes against his uncle and well-known late model racer, Jimmy Cope.
“I have watched my Uncle Jimmy race all of my life and I’m anxious and excited to get the opportunity to race against someone who is considered one of the best short track drivers in the state of Florida. Normally it would be my dad [Mike Cope] and uncle competing head to head on the track, but knowing that I am going to be the one behind the wheel, with my dad as my crew chief, makes this race even more memorable.”
Mike Cope believes his son has what it takes to progress to the next level of stock car racing.

“In Florida, we have some of the best race car drivers in the country and if you want to become one of them you are going to have to race against them,” stated Mike Cope. “After winning three Goodyear Challenge races this year, I believe we are up for the next challenge. Seeing the young racing talent that we have around us today, I believe Travis has what it takes to make it to the top.”
The Sunbelt Triple Crown series is a prestigious late model racing event in the state of Florida which has been around since the early 1980's. The series has seen the names of Dick Trickle, Butch Miller, Wayne Anderson, Jimmy Cope and Mike Cope to name a few.
This year the series will host a triple header weekend beginning at Desoto Super Speedway on October 20th, heading to Bronson Motor Speedway on October 21st, and rounding out the weekend at Ocala Speedway on October 22nd.
