Columbia Motorsports Park hosts Sunbelt Super Late Model 125 Saturday, September 30th
by Jane Smith
June 17 marked the first appearance of the Sunbelt Super Late Model drivers at Columbia Motorsports Park in the 2006 season. That night fans saw twenty Super Lates compete for the win with Wayne Anderson of Wildwood setting fast time with a 16.851. Tim Russell, Jeff Scofield, Mike Bresnahan and Chris Fontaine completed the top five.
Anderson, who says he does not have the best of luck when pulling pills for the start, pulled the number seven pill putting Chet Morrison of New Orleans on the pole for the 125 lap race.
On the start Choquette spent little time taking over the lead and once he got it, he never let go of it leading restart after restart. In the end it was Choquette, Jeff Scofield, Mike Bresnahan, Jason Boyd and Rich Pratt.
When the green flag flies this Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park, Jeff Scofield leads the points for the Sunbelt Series. But only eight points behind Scofield is the winner of the June race, Jeff Choquette. Choquette is ready to defend his win and to move up in the points standings. Choquette also stands second in points for the All American Challenge Series at Desoto Super Speedway.
Wayne Anderson, a multi Champion, runs thrid in points for the Sunbelt Series followed by Mike Bresnahan. Jason Boyd, the 2005 Sunbelt Super Late Model Champion and Rookie of the Year stands fifth. Completing the top ten are Rich Pratt, Tim Russell, Brian Finney, Jerry Artuso and Chris Fontaine.
Points are extremely tight at this time and a win Saturday night and a top five finish could make a big difference in the standings and who will be the 2006 Sunbelt Super Late Model Champion.
