Hamrac Takes Timberline Homes Super Stock Special at Five Flags Speedway
Five Flags Release
Donnie Hamrac of Mobile raced two weeks ago in the Super Stock feature at Five Flags Speedway to prepare for Friday’s Timberline Homes Special that paid $1,000 to win.
He finished third in that race two weeks ago, and he knew he had to make adjustments to the car.
"We went back to the old setup and it worked," he said.
It sure did.
Hamrac passed Mike Williamson with 13 laps to go to win the 40-lap race Friday night.
For the first 24 laps, the leaders were content to ride around. Williamson led the way, followed by Robert Royce, Chris Cotto, Hamrac and points leader Shannon Jackson.
On Lap 23, Cotto took second when he went low around Royce, who got stuck behind a lapped car. Two laps later, the lapped car of John Adamson blew a tire and clipped Cotto as he was passing. That forced Cotto to the back of the lead-lap cars. Meanwhile, during the caution Royce had to retire with an oil leak.
Then on the restart, Jackson, the points leader, slowed and had to come into the pits.
Hamrac worked low inside Williamson in Turn 1 on Lap 27 to take the lead and pulled away. Williamson finished second, followed by Joe Mahuron and Cotto worked his way to fourth. Jackson returned to the race, but finished 16th.
His finish allowed Cotto to close to within four points.
Pro Late Model points leader Steven Davis took the lead on Lap 4 and dominated the 40-lap Pro Late Model feature.
Brandon Robbins, the Snowflake 100 winner last year, was the fastest qualifier, but started sixth on the invert. He worked his way to second by Lap 14, but never could close on Davis, even on a restart on Lap 35.
Keith Thorpe finished third, while Williamson, doing double-duty, was fourth and Gregory Tallent fifth.
It was the second feature win of the season at Five Flags for Davis, who was coming off a victory in a 100-lap feature at South Alabama Motor Speedway.
Billy Hoover took the lead early in the race and went on to win the 20-lap Sportsman feature. Randy Thompson finished second, while David Poole was third, Bo Resmondo fourth and James Flowers fifth.
Most of the action in the Bomber feature occurred before and after the race started.
The car of points leader Ricky Teevan stopped on the track before the race started and he had to be pushed back into the pits. By the time he fixed the problem, the race had started and he finished 13th.

Meanwhile, David Holland led most of the way to take the 15-lap victory for his third win this season.
Michael Kitchen, who entered the race 20 points behind Teevan, finished second behind Holland. But when another driver made a claim on Kitchen’s car, he refused to sell and was disqualified.
That put James Kimbrough in second, while John Taylor was third, Joel Lesley Jr. fourth and Nathan Sapp fifth.
The end result is that Holland now unofficially leads the point standings by eight over Teevan, while Kitchen dropped to third.
