Schmauss, Dixon and Reutimann Battle in Modifieds At East Bay
By Whit Holley
Tampa, Fl. July 29 2006 Inclement weather once again forced track officials at East Bay Raceway Park to alter the nights scheduled events. Two separate rain showers required us to go to a features only program with extra laps added to some classes. The best fans in the country hung tough during the over two-hour delay and were treated to some great dirt track racing in return.
The Street Stock class was first up on the revised schedule for their twenty lap main. At the green, Buckshot Meixner moved from his outside row one starting spot into the lead and dared anyone to try and wrestle it away from him. Cam Canova and Charlie Paris Jr. took several shots at the lead but Buckshot was able to survive all challenges to lead every lap on the way to his very first East Bay victory. Canova held on to finish second ahead of Paris. Jeff Stewart and Doug Johnson rounded out the top five in a very smoothly run race that required only two yellows.
The Gagles Open Wheel Modifieds once again had a stellar field of twenty-two cars take the green flag for their twenty lapper. Devin Dixon led the early laps with David Schmauss and Buzzie Reutimann taking shots at the front spot lap after lap. Schmauss was able to pull off the pass shortly after the half way point and hold on for the win. Dixon maintained second at the finish over the third place Reutimann. Modified Video - Click Here! Dale Kelly rebounded from a trip to the back of the field after being involved in a multi car tangle in turn two to finish fourth and Bruce Watkins did the same to round out the top five.
In Outlaw Four action, Jim Courson made his return to victory lane in the familiar number 73. Behind Courson, Cecil Martin and Travis Varnadore had a torrid battle over second spot for lap after lap. Martin prevailed to take second with Varnadore forced to settle for third. Alex Boerner and points leader Chad Rose capped the top five. Tim George made it two wins in a row by taking tonight’s Limited Sprint twenty lap main.

George started outside row three and made his way to the front after passing early leader Rick Martin. By the time Greg Leonard made his way to the second spot, “Big” Tim had built up a half lap lead on the rest of the field but the chase was on. Goerge was the first to encounter lapped traffic and the lead started shrinking. Quickly. Leonard was able to close in enough to make one shot at the lead as the field took the white flag but George held him off to take the win forcing Leonard to settle for second ahead of Danny Jones, Rich Alexander, and Paulie Milum.
Four Cylinder Bomber action rounded out the night’s program and the pork clan found their way back into victory lane. B.W. Hogwaller rooted his way to the win over newcomer Mike Blount, point’s leader Jimmy Alvis, J.C. Hogjaws, and Tim Albright.
The next event on The Clay By The Bay in our summer schedule will be August 19th when we will host Limited Sprints, Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Outlaw Fours, and Four Cylinder Bombers. And don’t forget about the Late Model Show Down 100 coming September 16th. $5000.00 to win!
