Skinner has the RIGHT STUFF at USA International in Pro Truck 50 | KARNAC STAFF MEDIA
Lakeland, Fla. (July 22, 2006) Jamie Skinner has not been seen much this year behind the wheel of a racecar but Saturday night at Lakeland's USA International, he proved that his magic touch was still there. Jamie led every lap of the 50 lap truck race to take his first win of 2006.
The BNN Television cameras were rolling when Jamie Skinner visited the USA International Winners Circle Saturday night. Skinner, who owns his own business in Port Orange, ran full time in 2005 and at year's end realized just how much racing costs and decided to take more of a break in 2006 and make money instead of spend money. Not a bad decision when you foot the bill yourself.
Leading every lap Saturday night, Skinner came to life and made it look easy although he never said that. "I lost second gear and had to really put out an effort to get the truck to get ahead on the restarts," said Skinner in tech. But there was no one happier Saturday night after the race.
A scary moment happened in the beginning of the race when it was red flagged in the first lap when Graham McCorvey, Scott Reeves and Todd Bontrager all got together with Reeves hurting his leg. Reeves was transported to the hospital with a leg injury. All three trucks were out of the race before it even began.
Making very good impressions on the crowd were Scott Bishop, Michael Pilia, Chad Akins, and Kyle Eastham who are the "younger" of the FASCAR Pro Truck drivers.
Bishop, who leads the points in the Pro Truck Series, drove his truck to a third place finish. Michael Pilia, who recently left FASTRUCK to race with the Pro Trucks, was very impressive for his first trip to USA International coming home fourth.
Chad Akins, who has dreamed of racing Lakeland, drove his truck to a seventh place finish with Kyle Eastham, who recently won the Pro Truck race at New Smyrna Speedway, finishing tenth.
The next event for the FASCAR Pro Truck Series will be August 12th at Columbia Motorsports Park in Lake City. For more information on the FASCAR Pro Truck Series go to www.fascar.org.
