Ray Black Jr. Wins Albany Motor Speedway Mini Cup Invitational | By Mark Blair
Ray Black Jr. showed patience and poise as he worked his way through the pack to win the inaugural Albany Motor Speedway Mini Cup Invitational Saturday, July 8th.
The win was especially gratifying as several members of his family traveled from Greenville, Alabama to watch him race for the first time. Ray's #4 black and orange Monte Carlo overcame hard harging Thomas Warnick midway through the race and then dominated the remainder of the 50 lap feature event.
Ray Jr. is competing in his first season with the Florida Mini Cup Racing Series as part of the Junior Allstar Division. He's won two races so far this season and had several top 5 finishes placing him as a top contender for "Rookie of the Year" honors.
His primary sponsor, Commercial Diving Academy, is very excited to be a part of Ray Jr.'s racing program and has committed their support for the next 2-3 years.
A company spokesman was quoted as saying, "Commercial Diving Academy recognizes the value of Motor Sports Marketing and believes Ray Black Jr. has a promising future in stock car racing. We look forward to having him as a part of our marketing strategy and feel as he develops his skills and moves into the next levels of racing he'll be an excellent spokesman for our company."
Commercial Diving Academy is an Internationally recognized accredited commercial diving school specializing in underwater welding, dive medicine and air/mixed gas commercial diving certifications.
Ray Jr. will finish out the remainder of the Mini Cup season but has already begun plans of testing in a Limited Late Model by the end of the year and racing several Late Model races throughout the Southeast Region next season. His goal is to be a serious contender in the Hooters Cup Series within 3 years and after proving himself, moving up to the Craftsman Truck Series.
