Sunbelt Super Late Model Series heads to Columbia this Saturday, June 17 | by Jane Smith
Lake City, Fla. (June 14, 2006) Want some excitement, want to see some really good Super Late Models?? Then make your plans to be at Columbia Motorsports Park this Saturday night for the Sunbelt Super Late Model 125. The "best of the best" Super Late Model drivers in the state.
"We are very excited about having the Sunbelt Series at the track this Saturday," said Columbia's General Manager Wayne Handyside. "These guys race hard and fast and the fans love them."
This will mark the first of two appearances this year at Columbia for the Sunbelt Series and you can be assured you won't be disappointed Saturday night. Expected drivers Jeff Scofield, the points leader for the Sunbelt, Wayne Anderson, Jason Boyd, Brian Finney, Jeff Choquette, Chris Fontaine, Mike Bresnahan, Rich Pratt, Mac Johnson, Scott Millar, Patrick Conrad, Fain Skinner are just a few of the drivers. Plus you can never count out David Hodges or Patrick Williams or any number of a few surprise drivers.
In 2005, Jason Boyd topped the first Sunbelt race at Columbia with Wayne Anderson taking the second race. Who will it be in 2006?? That is definitely a good question with so many talented drivers in the Sunbelt series.
One driver who has run this year in the Sunbelt Series, Jerry Artuso, may not be at Columbia but should be at the Clyde Hart Memorial 200 on July 2. Artuso is very busy right now in his business and is not expected this Saturday.
Two drivers to watch this Saturday will be Wayne Anderson and Jeff Scofield who got into an argument at last weekend's Powell Memorial at Ocala Speedway. Both are determined drivers and both will fight hard to get to the front. Should make for an exciting race.
Chris Fontaine comes off his win at Desoto Super Speedway last weekend in the All American Challenge Series. Fontaine has had his ups and downs this year but stands sixth in points and only two points behind fifth place Jeff Choquette.
Another driver to watch is Brian Finney who set fast time for the Powell Memorial. Finney has plenty of experience at Columbia from his Florida Pro days and also has some wins at the track from Florida Pro.
There will be an open practice on Friday, June 16, from 5 to 10 pm for the Sunbelt drivers. Camping and transporter parking are free. Pit gate will open at 2 pm on Saturday, June 17, with qualifying at 6:30 pm. Racing starts at 7:30 pm.
Along with the Sunbelt Super Late Model 125 will be the Street Stocks and Hornets. Grandstands open at 6 pm with general admission $20.00, students and seniors $15.00, children 11 and under free.
