THIRD STOP FOR PBG LEGENDS CAR TOUR SET FOR CITRUS COUNTY SPEEDWAY | By Dave Westerman
Citrus County Speedway will host race number three for the 2006 PBG Florida Legends Car Tour Saturday night and a big field is expected.
So far in 2006, 28 different Legend Car drivers have earned points with 21 of those making both races. The season opener at Orlando Speedworld went to 16 year old Brandon Thomson in his Nick Pistone Racing/Auto Parts of Taft machine which was certainly no surprise.
But the winner of round number two is still the talk of the Legends Car racing world as 15 year old 9th grader Chelsea Schillig came home with the victory at Bronson Motor Speedway in her Jeff Schillig / Kendirk Performance car. It was Chelsea's first ever Legends Car win, but to make it even more incredible, her car had been rebuilt from a crash the week before at Orlando Speedworld.
Consistency has the 2005 PBG Tour Champion Kory Abbott of Apopka currently on top of the 2006 point chase, but by only two markers over Schillig. Abbott is a Pro Division driver and leads that individual point battle along with the overall standings while Schillig is ahead of the large group of Semi-Pro drivers.
Masters Division driver Andy Logan of West Palm Beach is third in the overall standings and, of course leading the 40 years old and over Masters group. Logan, who competed in the Legends several years ago with much success along with his brother David, tried Late Models for awhile before returning to his "roots" but admits things are much different now. "Back when I first raced these cars, we were a bunch of weekend warriors just out to have some fun," says Logan. "Now you have these kids out here racing the Legends. They are extremely talented and know no fear. If I can beat them, I'll really feel I've accomplished something," he says.
Tallahassee racer Stuart Dutton sits fourth in points just ahead of Matt Bowers while Bryan Silas, Thomson, Josh Williams, Mike Verhaagh and Chris McDonald round out the top ten.
Race fans are invited to come out to Citrus County Speedway this Saturday for some great racing with the PBG Legends along with the usual outstanding weekly racing program offered by the track located in Inverness.
