Samsula, Fla. (April 4, 2006) The second race in 2006 for the Sunbelt Super Late Model Series will run this Saturday at Citrus County Speedway in Inverness.
In March 2005, it was Mike Bresnahan who set fast time for the first race of the Sunbelt Super Late Models held at Citrus County. But it was Wayne Anderson who took the checkered followed by Scott Grossenbacher, Jeff Choquette, Daniel Webster and Rich Pratt.
Going into race two this season it is Jeff Scofield of Plant City who leads the Sunbelt points. Scofield holds a nine point lead over Wayne Anderson who definitely knows Citrus County Speedway. Anderson has proved many times that he knows each and every curve of the racetrack and expect to see him go to the front early.
Jason Boyd has traded cars for the 2006 season and now wheels the No. 15 Super Late Model. Boyd stands third in points and only four points behind Anderson. "I really want to defend the 2005 Sunbelt Championship and so far, we are doing okay this year" said Boyd. Fellow Gong Show contestant Jeff Choquette is only ten points behind Boyd and has been tough this year. Choquette recently won the All American Challenge Series race at Desoto Super Speedway on April 1.
Mike Bresnahan knows Citrus County Speedway like David Rogers knows New Smyrna Speedway. Mike cut his racing teeth at Citrus County and always runs strong there. Mike stands five points behind Choquette in fifth. Tim Russell is a Rookie this year in Sunbelt but if past experiences in the Goodyear Challenge Late Model Series count at all, Russell will be in contention for the Championship at the end of the year. Russell is only seven points behind Bresnahan in sixth place.
Brian Finney may be a PE Coach to elementary kids but he definitely can wheel a Super Late. Finney won at Ocala Speedway last year and has been in the top five quite a few times in the Sunbelt. Finney is sponsored by Merritt Island Air and Heat and Bob Steele Chevrolet. Finney is only one point behind Russell in seventh place.
David Rogers stands eighth in points and is only seven points behind Finney. Following Rogers in ninth place is Mac Johnson of nearby Gainesville. Mac is still looking for his first Sunbelt win and who knows, maybe this Saturday will be it. Rounding out the top ten in points is Chris Fontaine. Fontaine stands only four points behind Johnson.
Other drivers expected are Rich Pratt, Patrick Conrad, Jerry Artuso (who flies in from Canada to race the Sunbelt), Scott Crockett, Fain Skinner, and a few of the Citrus County Speedway Super Lates.
With points as tight as they are, every lap counts and Citrus is one track that will prove who can make the most laps and still have a car left. You have to be there to see who wins.
There will be open practice on Friday night, April 7th at Citrus County Speedway. For times and price, contact Citrus County Speedway at 352-726-9339. Citrus County Speedway is located in Inverness, Florida, two miles south of S.R. 44 on U.S. 41 at the Citrus County Fairgrounds.
