Keith Nosbisch Takes Two In A Row At East Bay Raceway
By Roby Helm
TAMPA, FL - Keith Nosbisch of Valrico, FL continued his domination of StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series action at East Bay Raceway Park by picking up his second straight 25-lap main event victory Tuesday night. In two nights of racing, Nosbisch has led all 50 laps of competition driving the Adams Used Auto Parts Rocket/604.
Nosbisch won the second 10-lap heat race and earned the pole position when first 10-lap heat race winner Denny Slayton of Rossville, GA drew the number two, and put himself on the outside of the front row.
Slayton, the defending StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Champion trailed Nosbisch throughout the race, and finished second in the Pete Slayton Motorsports GRT/604. Rusty Dixon of Riverview, FL took the third spot for the second straight night in the Transportation Specialist Rocket/604.
Phillip Cobb of Tampa, FL finished fourth in the Top Notch Home Repair Warrior/604 by just edging out Shannon Buckingham of Morristown, TN in the S&S Millwright Barry Wright/604 by a nose at the checkered flag. Owen Osteen of Woodruff, SC was sixth in the Dustin Osteen Mastersbilt/604.
Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN started tenth in the Miller Brother Coal Warrior/604 and finished seventh to claim the NeSmith Chevrolet Hard Charger of the Race Award. Roger Crouse of Plant City, FL took the eighth spot in the Coastal Trucking Rayburn/604, and ninth went to Steve Mathis of Plant City, FL in the Strawberry Palace Rayburn/604.
Jeff Fields of Aragon, GA rounded out the top ten in the Summerville Junkyard Mastersbilt/604. Matt Barrett of Knoxville, TN finished 12th in the Tennessee Appraisal Service Warrior/604 to pick up the Kinsler Air Filters Rookie of the Race Award.
Nosbisch took the lead from the pole position at the drop of the green flag with Slayton, Dixon, Cobb, and Crouse trailing. By lap ten, Nosbisch, who had opened up a full straightaway lead on the 1/3-mile clay oval over Slayton, began to encounter lapped traffic. Slayton used the opportunity to close within five car-lengths of Nosbisch by lap 15.
Nosbisch was able to shake through the lapped traffic, and once he had clear race track in front of him, he once again pulled out to a full straightaway lead over Slayton in the caution-free race.
The StormPay.com Dirt Late Models will return to East Bay Raceway Park on Wednesday night for their third and final night of competition in the 30th Annual East Bay Winternationals with a $3,000-to-win 30-lap main event.
East Bay Raceway Park is located five miles south of I-4 on U.S. Highway 41. For more information about East Bay Raceway Park, visit the track web site at www.eastbayracewaypark.com.
