Are you Ready for Nine Nights of Racing Action? If so, the 40th World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing is almost Here | by Jane Smith
Samsula, Fl (February 6, 2006) Are you ready for nine nights of HOT racing action?? Can you stand the heat of the NASCAR Tour Mods/SK mods? Do you love Super Lates, Late Models and Open Wheel Modifieds?? If so, the place you need to be from Feburary 10th thru 18th is New Smyrna Speedway.
2006 marks the 40th year that New Smyrna Speedway has presented the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing on the best half mile asphalt oval in the state. There you will see such stars of the NASCAR Tour Modifieds as Ted Christopher, Donny Lia, Chris Pasteryak, and Kevin Goodale. You will feel the heat of the big block mods and the thrill of their fast action.
"Once a year we have the pleasure of hosting the Tour Mods and SK mods at New Smyrna," said Don Nerone, General Manager of Team FASCAR. "The fans love these cars and with it still being winter, many of the fans live here during the winter. It would not be the World Series without these guys and Richard Brooks who makes it happen for the Tour Mods."
The NASCAR Tour Type Mods/SK Mods will race every night except Monday, February 13th when they get a night off to rest and do whatever they like. On Wednesday, February 15th, the Tour Mods will race a 50 lap race getting them ready for the annual Richie Evans Memorial 100 on Friday.
Last year Donny Lia topped the field for the Richie Evans Memorial and comes to New Smyrna with high hopes of repeating that win. "This is one race where some guys only come for that race," said Richard Brooks, who brings the fast Northern Mods to New Smyrna Speedway each year. "Winning the Richie Evans Memorial is like winning the Daytona 500 to these guys. Everyone loved Richie and everyone wants to win his race."
A second Memorial race has been added this year to the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing for the Super Late Models. Saturday, Feburary 18th, the Super Lates will run 100 laps in the Pete Orr Memorial.
"Pete Orr was well known among Florida short trackers and also around the country. Pete, nicknamed "Gentleman Pete" had the respect of the racing world and when he was lost in November of 2002 to cancer, the racing world mourned the loss." said fellow racer David Green. "Pete was a great human being and an awesome race car driver."
In 2003, the Pete Orr Memorial Orange Blossom 125 was created for our friend. But it was decided that it would be more of an honor to his memory to add it to the World Series where drivers from around the country could honor Pete Orr. Thus the Memorial was moved to the last Saturday night of the World Series.
Also in action every night will be the Late Models and FL/IMCA Modifieds. The Mini Stocks will have five nights of racing action beginning Friday, February 10th thru Tuesday night, February 14th. The Sportsman come in on Wednesday, February 15th for three nights of action thru February 17th with the Pro Trucks making their World Series appearance on Thursday, February 16th thru February 18th. The always popular TBARA Outlaw Winged Sprints will run Sunday night, February 12th and Monday night, February 13th.
General admission each night is $20.00 with reserved seating available for $25.00. For more information on the 40th World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing please go to www.fascar.org under World Series for nightly results and qualifying.
