Monday, November 10, 2003 | | Wayne Anderson Wins Florida Triple Crown Race #2 at Citrus County Speedway | By John Barker
Wayne Anderson, newly crowned 2003 FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Model Series Champion, was just too much for the 25 car field winning the Sunbelt Super Late Model 125 Saturday night on Citrus County Speedway.
This was also race two of the Super Late Model Triple Crown.
"Last week (Bronson Motor Speedway) we broke on the pace lap - this week we ran all 125, so I'm never sure till it's over," said Anderson.
"Williams did have one shot at me during the final laps when I got into some oil."
"What about this Pathfinder Chassis this is my second win with it - It's a great piece of work," said Anderson.
Anderson driving his Air Frame International ride took the point from Patrick Williams in the Armstrong Homes car in lap 26 and held him to a second place finish.
With his second place finish Williams continues to lead the Super Late Model Triple Crown field in points as they head to New Smyrna Speedway for the Governors Cup on Nov. 22.
"It was just hard racing tonight," said a smiling Williams. "We were really good at Bronson last week with our win."
Williams did have a spin with Powell in turn three during lap 47, but shrugged it off.
"We both tried to get in the same piece of real estate," said Williams.
James Powell III finished third in his A Natural Difference Skin Care ride.
"We couldn't get around the 57 (Williams} car, but I'm happy we finally finished a race," said Powell.
"As far as my spin with Williams - we were both fighting over holding the same piece of land."
Rounding out the top five were Herb Neumann Jr. piloting his Frankie's Grill machine and Fain Skinner in the Skinners Auto Body car.
Mike Bresnahan set fast time in his Mike Bresnahan Racing ride turning the three-eighths mile semi-banked oval during his second qualifying lap in 13.468 seconds or 100.24 mph. Bresnahan drew number seven for inversion.
Hubert Simmons started on the pole, but it was Williams taking the lead in lap one followed by Anderson, Powell, Skinner, Neumann and Bresnahan.
Neumann kept things moving as he quickly passed Skinner for fourth.
Anderson then found his way by Williams as the leader slipped just enough opening the door for a pass in lap 26.
In lap 35, the running order was Anderson, Williams, Powell, Neumann and Skinner.
Powell was racing Williams hard for second and the duo spun in turn three in lap 47 bringing out the yellow, but were both awarded their positions back because of oil on the track.
In lap 65, Anderson opened a six-car lead over Williams and Powell showing who was in charge.
Powell would try to dial Williams in for second, but didn't have enough to try a pass in lap 70.
Powell again tried Williams, but it once again fell short as Anderson opened a 10-car lead in lap 91.
Neumann looked closely at Powell and looked outside for a passing attempt, but settled back in his fourth place spot.
During lap 113, Williams tried Anderson one last time as the leader slipped on some oil, but it wasn't to be.
Anderson crossed the stripe followed by Williams, Powell, Neumann and Skinner.
The next FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Model race will be Nov. 29 at New Smyrna Speedway in Governors Cup racing.
