Full Race Card for New Smyrna Speedway as Super Lates, Lates and Modifieds go for "double" Points Saturday night

by Jane Smith

Samsula, Fla (October 22, 2003) The Super Lates, Late Models and Open Wheel Modifieds return to action this Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway after being off last weekend for the "Race for the Kids" at Lakeland's USA International. All FASCAR divisions will be in action this Saturday night.

The Super Late Models will see "double" features from the rainout on October 11th. The first feature will be "double" points from the rainout. Leading the Super Late Model division is David Rogers who looks to be a shoe-in as the 2003 Champion. Rogers leads the division with 624 points.

B.J. McLeod comes in second with 496 points and plans to make it a pretty close race in points if at all possible. Wayne Parker sits third with 352 points followed by Guy Thomas in fourth with 288 points. Joe Fitos rounds out the top five with 180 points. David Froelich, Brent Hobbs, Mark Vandevender, Mike Finn and Robert Jenkins rounds out the top ten. Double points could move any of these five drivers up with a good finish Saturday night.

Brian Bellaw is looking for his second consecutive championship in the Late Models but Tim Clark is giving him a run for his money. Bellaw stands at 472 points with Clark at 384. Both these drivers run hard and double points could really help Saturday night. Coming in third is Mark Smith with 288 points followed by Bobby Orr in fourth with 244 points. Don Hess completes the top five with 212 points.

Timmy Todd, Larry Osteen, Chris Lawrence, David Rogers and Aaron Dreher round out the top ten.

The Open Wheel Modifieds will also go for "double" points Saturday night as Bobby Blake leads the points battle with 548 points over second place Mark Vandevender with 444 points. Matt Wheeler, points leader at Orlando SpeedWorld, comes in third with 224 points. Brad May stands fourth with196 points followed by Jim "Hoot" Flynn with 180 points.

David Castello and Rob Underwood are tied in sixth and seventh with 160 points each. Also tied in eighth and ninth at 120 points each are David Hite and Jerry Symons. Justin Henderson completes the top ten with 116 points.

Billy Spade is looking for his first Sportsman Championship and is leading the points with 712 points. But Dale Clouser, who stands second with 588, is not giving up and hopes to still make this a close race. Ron Lufcy slide back to third after last week's double features and stands at 556 points. John Nusbaum moved into fourth with 424 points followed by Jim Snyder in fifth with 368 points.

Rounding out the top ten are Bill Love 348, Mike Trocki 276, Chris Peludat 264, Dusty Downer 236 and Paul Colgan 164.

After last week's double features, Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulpius moved ahead of Tim "Missileman" McPhail by 4 points for the points lead in the Mini Stock division. Vulpius stands at 768 points to McPhail's 764. This points battle is another one that will go down to the last race and either driver will make a great champion. McPhail has the points lead at Orlando SpeedWorld and looks to be headed for his second Championship at New Smyrna's sister track.

Rex Christensen has done a great job this year and it shows as he stands third in points with 672. David Castello had the No. 1 Mini Stock at the track last week but had problems and was unable to race but still holds fourth in points with 312. Castello was the 2002 Champion. Rounding out the top five is Ben Hutto with 240 points.

Completing the top ten are Ron Debeau with 232, Rex "Boneman" Hollinger with 216, Wayne Clark with 148 and tied with Clark is Pug Pugsli also at 148, with Bob Delmastro completing the top ten with 132 points.

Charlie Collins is doing his best to hold together an engine, he blew alot of motors earlier in the year, as he leads the Super Stock points with 724 points. Ron Whaley stands second and only 36 points behind Collins with 688 points. Jeff Colburn comes in third with 524 followed by Josh Wronkowski in fourth with 472 points. Mike Amato rounds out the top five with 404 points.

Completing the top ten in Super Stock are Butch Pierce 280, Todd Driscoll 196, Ted Head 180, Bob Trombley 160 and Robert Skinner with 120.

See ya at the races!!!!
