Doug Moff Extends DeSoto Late Model Points Lead with Win | By Rick Anges Mother Nature tried to dampen the racing action Saturday night at DeSoto Speedway. But the fans and the racers were not to be denied as once again patience won out and a full night of side by action ensued.
The Limited Late Models came out 24 cars strong for qualifying on a green racetrack. Most of the machines were dirt tracking it coming out of the turns causing times to slip into the low to mid 15-second range.
Doug Moff, the current point's leader in the class, apparently had set his car up for the slick surface and took fast time at 14.94 sec.
Tate Pierce and Scott Woodalnd started on the front row and was Woodland who jumped out and led the early laps. It wasnt long before Pierce moved around Woodland and took the lead. Pierce has been strong all season long and won the last race.
Tommy Younkman had a good run going and had moved into the top five when he and Joe Sumansky got together coming out of turn four, Sumanskys car appeared to have steering problems and turned into Younkman's car causing a hard lick into the back stretch wall. Both drivers were ok but Younkman's car had severe damage ending his night.
With the laps winding down Moff showed his strength and passed Pierce and drove on to the checkers, Tim Russell made his way by pierce also to take second, third went to Pierce, fourth was Jason Crossey and fifth went to Larry Osteen.
To involve the fans more, track owner John Sarippraicone spoke with five people before the race and allowed them to each pick a Limited driver, if their driver won John offered up a $100 prize to a lucky fan. Tonight that lucky fan was June Chenoweth as she selected Moff to win and walked off with the cash prize.
Open Wheel
Wayne Rocketman Jefferson was back to his winning ways holding off a hard charging Lee Collins to take another victory in the Open Wheel Modified feature event, Collins who finished second was Dqed in tech for an illegal carb giving second to Rocco Ranallo, third was John Shields, fourth went to Kevyn Terry and fifth Mark Chapman.
DeSoto Trucks
Todd Bontrager roared to the front and never looked back easily taking the truck feature. Bontrager dedicated the race to his sister who had recently passed away. Behind Bontrager was point's leader Shane Russ, third was B.J.Gill, fourth place David Pollen Jr. and fifth was Danny Glover Jr.
