Citrus Attempts to Restart 2003 Season with L.M. 75 | by Larry MacMillan
(Inverness, Fl. 7/8/03) Mother Nature has pretty well dominated the last three weeks of the first half of the Citrus County Speedway racing season. Thus far there have been four rainouts and in an effort to make up for some of it, promoters Billy Hooker and Jimmy Ware have put together a restart for the season that should have plenty of action for all the racers and fans.
Highlighting the night will be a 75 lap Late Model points race to help the local late model drivers catch up on missed races. Their schedule has been limited this season due to other specials that have run, and will be running throughout the balance of the season. The Late Models will be time trialing for starting positions and will be going for a $2,000 win purse. It should make for an eventful night and an opportunity to pick up some much needed points in the race for the 2003 championship crown.
Sportsman, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Thunder Stocks will line up on point averages and go in an all feature program for 30 laps each. Needless to say, there have been no changes in the point standings over the past three weeks and the drivers and pit crews have had plenty of time to get any mechanical, chassis set ups and cosmetic damages worked out. Now maybe they can get over the “I Need To Race Syndrome” they have been suffering from. Hopefully they haven’t lost all their patience and track smarts over the three week vacation. None of these races can be won in the first lap and they will have 10 extra laps to make it to the front.
TEAM EXTREEM, a three member motorcycle stunt team will fill in the gaps during intermission. This precision motorcycle team is making appearances all over the country and is just one of a couple of specials yet to come before the season ends on November 8th. Big Foot and some other Monster Trucks will be making an appearance in August.
There will be a practice on Thursday from 5 til 8 p.m. and Friday evening from 5 til 9 to make preparations for the big mid-season kick off. With all the time off the drivers will need the extra time to get back on track. If anyone has any pull with Mother Nature would you please put in a good word for all the Florida racetracks. WE WANT TO RACE!.
