FASCAR Gets Ready To Shine at USA International Speedway | By John Barker
It's time to shine up the championship ring for the sixth annual Florida State Late Model Championship, which has been rescheduled for this coming Saturday (June 28), in the FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Model Midas Jewelers 200 at USA International Speedway at 7:30 p.m.
A FASCAR Goodyear Challenge Series will immediately follow the Sunbelt race.
Jimmy Cope of Pinellas Park, defending Florida State Super Late Model champion, will try to make it two straight victories with his same go-to-the-front style of driving.
Cope should have plenty of fast company, with Sunbelt point leader Wayne Anderson of Wildwood ready to move quickly.
Joining these merchants of speed will be 2003 Sunbelt race winner at USA International Speedway James Powell of Astor, along with David Rogers of Orlando and Johnny Kay of Plantation.
There should be 30 Super Late Models entered in the event.
Sunbelt Super Late Models and Goodyear Challenge Series Late Models qualify at 4 p.m. today.
Jerry Artuso of Ontario, Canada, heads up the Goodyear Late Model field in points, but has plenty of company with recent USA winner Brad May of Orlando.
Steve Smith of Lakeland and Rich Clouser of Palm Bay are close behind.
Also in the mix is Jason Boyd of Orlando, who will give all something to think about.
Twenty-eight Late Models are expected for the Goodyear Series.
Ticket prices at USA Speedway range from $15 to $25 tonight; children under 10 are $5.
FASCAR racing was founded by the late Clyde Hart at New Smyrna Speedway in 1989. FASCAR currently boasts more than 1,000 members.
Robert Hart, son of Clyde, and Don Nerone, both of Samsula, continue to run this fast-growing racing operation, which consists of FASCAR divisions in Sunbelt Super Late Models, Goodyear Challenge Late Models and Pro Modifieds.
FASCAR also sanctions Florida Mini Stock Challenge, Modified Lites, Pro Challenge and FASTRUCKS.
"My father's idea has yet to come full circle, but FASCAR is steadily providing all drivers an opportunity to help achieve their racing goals in a strong, constructive manner," said Robert Hart.
You can obtain racing rules at newsmyrnaspeedway.com along with other scheduling and pertinent racing information.
FASCAR insurance covers any drivers or team members with a $50,000 insurance program when they purchase a FASCAR license. An average race track covers drivers and teams up to a normal $5,000 and $15,000, but with a FASCAR membership another $50,000 is added to that track amount.
FASCAR has also provided Florida race promoters an opportunity to run a division of their choice without a worry of drawing from a large pool of drivers.
The bottom line is FASCAR is a sanctioning body founded in Central Florida designed and formed for the purpose of organizing and regulating the rules and operating procedures at a race track.
"Our racing operation has grown very quickly with our structured racing programs, and we will continue to provide drivers with all that's necessary for them to be successful," said Nerone.
