Let's Go Racing ASA Style

Sunny skies and near 90 degree temperatures at USA International Speedway greeted the ASA Racing Series as it re-convened for a first time since the National Awards Banquet last November in Louisville (KY).

The first of three days of activities leading up to the season-opening Jani-King 200 saw a total of 48 teams begin the process of thorough car inspections with ASA Technical officials. Teams also completed the important various registrations required for both single event and season long involvement in the ASA Racing Series.

"We have prepared extensively for this day, the event weekend and our season and I'm pleased with the reaction of our competitors," said Joe Balash, ASA Operations Manager. "The ASA team of officials is a strong mix of experience and new people starting with Steve Dale (new President & CEO) at the top."

There were meetings conducted for areas including Race Control procedure, Crew Chiefs, Drivers and Rookie specific, along with a Team Welcome Party at the conclusion of the day. ASA's Dale hosted the Welcome Party as the 2002 ASA Racing Series championship owner begins his first event weekend as the new owner of the American Speed Association. It culminates the first ownership change for the Indiana-based sanctioning body in more than 3 1/2 decades.

Friday will bring the first opportunity for cars on the track, as four separate 50-minute practice sessions will begin at noon.

Nearly 50 cars are expected to make qualifying attempts on Saturday at 5 p.m. leading up to the green flag at 9 p.m. (Eastern). The Jani-King 200 will mark the start of ASA's 36th season of nationally touring stock car racing and will be telecast live on Speed Channel.

Tickets for the Jani-King 200 are still available through the USA Int’l Speedway with reserved seats priced from $25, $20 and $15 depending on seat location. Advance tickets to the season-opening event are sold at a $5 discount on each ticket by calling the track, 1-800-984-RACE.
