\nNorth Port, FL – Sources close to KARNAC Motorsports Media and RealRacinUSA.com have officially confirmed\u00a0reports that longtime race announcer and Motorsports writer, Bill Green has called it quits and is retiring from Motorsports for personal and health reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n

When contacted by phone, Bill stated, “I’ve had so much fun and met so many wonderful people in racing over the years, that I’m sure it will be hard to go cold turkey, but I know I need to concentrate on my family a lot more. Plus, I have a few sons and daughters that would like to go racing with, Dad.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Most remember Bill as the voice of Sunshine Speedway in Pinellas Park, FL where he entertained and excited fans for\u00a08 of its final 10\u00a0years. During those early years of his new career, he penned the infamous “From Behind The MIC!” columns for Motorsports Weekly’s inside front cover. He also took over as owner and host of Doug Auld’s popular AM weekly radio show,\u00a0“Short Track USA”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Green’s radio hosting and writing accomplishments are many. Fans can still visit TheAutoChannel.com and search “Short Track USA” for years of archived radio shows.\u00a0His human interest stories and special event coverage as the Local Motorsports Correspondent for the Tampa Tribune from mid-2007 until the Tribune\u00a0scaled back\u00a0local coverage in early 2009, became a regular read for local racers on Thursday mornings. Some are still available on TBO.com, the Tribune web site.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Green ends his Motorsports career as a regular fixture on one of Florida’s most famous web sites, KARNAC.com. From Hosting online radio shows, to “LIVE” Special event coverage of some of Florida’s biggest races, Bill has been involved\u00a0many aspects of local racing over the years. He was tapped to sit on the\u00a0Board\u00a0of Directors for the “Q Motorsports Family Student Racer Scholarship awards Program.” One of his favorite opportunities in racing.<\/span><\/p>\n

“That was some of my best work, working with Leonard & Barbara McCue on the board of directors,” he said. “To choose young racers for scholarship cash awards, that you know they are still using right now for their education, is an incredible feeling.”<\/span><\/p>\n

When ask what he might miss the most, he was quick to comment.”The real friends you make in racing will always meet you with a hand shake or a hug, even if your not seen for a year or more,” he continued as he choked up slightly. “But, the friend’s you lost along the way, like a “Wild” Bill Revard are the most difficult losses of all. They remind me why I need to spend more time with my 9 kids and now 10 grand kids.”<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
