{"id":5396,"date":"2011-03-03T18:45:20","date_gmt":"2011-03-03T18:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karnac.com\/flanews\/?p=5396"},"modified":"2011-03-03T18:45:20","modified_gmt":"2011-03-03T18:45:20","slug":"season-openers-for-modifieds-legends-and-bandoleros-saturday-night-at-auburndale-speedway-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/karnac.com\/flanews\/front-page-news\/season-openers-for-modifieds-legends-and-bandoleros-saturday-night-at-auburndale-speedway-8\/","title":{"rendered":"SEASON-OPENERS FOR MODIFIEDS, LEGENDS AND BANDOLEROS SATURDAY NIGHT AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">By Dave Westerman<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The month of March kicks off at Auburndale Speedway Saturday night with eight <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">classes in action including the Open Wheel Modifieds, Legend Cars, Sportsman, <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Street Stocks, V-8 Bombers, Scramblers, Mini Stocks and the Bandoleros.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The Open Wheel Modifieds will be running their first races of the season and<\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">will be led out the gate by defending track champion James Wright III.  Some<\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">new cars are expected and a lot of old favorites will be on hand including<\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Keith Lilley, Bobby Blake, Big Wayne Morris, Von Pope, Travis Roland and <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">many<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">more.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">It looks like the Legend Cars will be the class to beat this year when it comes <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">to car count as over 35 are now registered with Legend Cars of Florida with <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">a number of new drivers expected to begin participating in the near future. <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">It's not yet clear whether defending champion Jake Perkins of Ocala will do <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">much Legend Car racing this year as his team rolled out a new Late Model <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">last week for the season-opening Florida United Promoters Tour race at <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">DeSoto Super Speedway.  The 14-year-old had an impressive day in the <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\"Icebreaker,\" coming from 19th on the starting grid to finish eighth.<\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">It looks like there will be quite a few new drivers in the Bandolero class this <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">year, especially in the 8-10 year old Bandit division.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Lance Daubach looks to be the driver to beat in the Sportsman class this year <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">if his dominance of last weeks racing is any indication.  Another driver who <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">also looked very good last week was Brandon Duchscherer as his new ride <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">out of the Chuck Harrison stable was very stout.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The best surprise of the opening week of racing at Auburndale Speedway <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">had to be the number of new Scrambler cars that were in action.  However, <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Richie Acres found a way to make his Saturn run \"rings\" around the <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">competition last week and the action in the tech shed was almost as <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">interesting as the racing on the track.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Some new V-8 Bombers made an appearance last week including a really <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">nice new car for local veteran Matt Bozeman and a really sharp new Mopar <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">for Greg King.  John Smith, a former hot shoe at Orlando Speedworld before <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">moving to the Lakeland area, also brought out a new car last week and was <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">running third when his engine started to sour late in the going.<\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Pit gates open Saturday at 2PM and grandstand gates open at 5PM with <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">racing at 7PM. Adult admission is $12, seniors are $10, kids 5-12 are $5 <\/span><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">and kids under 4 are free.
