Story by Ken de la Bastide –\u00a0Wilson was able to pass Shane Cottle when the lapped car of(May 26, 2013) – Crawfordsville driver Jacob Wilson took advantage of\u00a0lapped traffic to grab the lead with 65 laps remaining to capture the 65th\u00a0running of the Pay Less Little 500 on Sunday, May 26 at Anderson\u00a0Speedway. \u00a0Chet Fillip got in front of the leader. \u00a0His first win came in his ninth\u00a0Little 500 start. \u00a0Cottle threatened Wilson hard from lap 490 to 496 when he lost an engine entering turn three. \u00a0Cottle, looking for a second\u00a0Little 500 win, inherited the lead on lap 417 when Tony Hunt pitted for the\u00a0second time, but it was short lived. The caution flag waved on lap 428 when\u00a0Shane Hollingsworth stopped on the front straight. \u00a0On the restart Cottle\u00a0got blocked by the car of Chet Fillip as it exited the pit and Wilson was able\u00a0to slip inside coming off the second corner. \u00a0Finishing behind Wilson were\u00a0Jo Jo Helberg, Eric Gordon in his final Little 500, Tony Elliott and Chet\u00a0Fillip. All of the top five finishers were running on the lead lap. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Little 500 win capped off a great week for Wilson at Anderson Speedway as he\u00a0also won the Must See Extreme Sprint 60 on Wednesday. \u00a0The strategy game\u00a0kicked into high gear with 150 laps as the leading cars of Jacob Wilson, Eric\u00a0Gordon and Tony Elliott all pitted for a final time. \u00a0Pole sitter Helberg\u00a0pitted for the last time on lap 310, counting on the leaders having to stop once\u00a0more under caution. \u00a0The big loser in the strategy game surrounding second\u00a0pit stops was Tony Hunt, who led from lap 350 to lap 416. \u00a0He gained the lead\u00a0when Wilson pitted along with the rest of the leaders. \u00a0Looking for his\u00a0second consecutive win, Brian Tyler was leading on lap 256 when he drifted high\u00a0in turn three and spun into the infield, losing four laps in the<\/p>\n

process.<\/p>\n

Things got worse for the defending champion when Aaron Pierce\u00a0spun in turn four on lap 289 and collected Tyler. That ended the night for both\u00a0drivers. \u00a0Pierce did lead from lap 116 to lap 186 when he surrendered the\u00a0point to Bryan Clauson when he pitted. On lap 219 Pierce tangled with Dave\u00a0Darland in turn three and lost two laps. \u00a0There were seven lead changes\u00a0among eight different drivers with Gordon leading 113 laps. The race was slowed\u00a017 times for 135 laps.<\/p>\n
