{"id":165,"date":"2010-01-24T05:56:29","date_gmt":"2010-01-24T05:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karnac.com\/flanews\/?p=165"},"modified":"2010-01-24T05:56:29","modified_gmt":"2010-01-24T05:56:29","slug":"glaser-tops-4-cylinder-challengers-at-volusia-speedway-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/karnac.com\/flanews\/race-results\/glaser-tops-4-cylinder-challengers-at-volusia-speedway-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Glaser tops 4 Cylinder Challengers at Volusia Speedway Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VSP MEDIA<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0Barberville, FL (January 23, 2010)\u00a0 It was packed pits for Volusia Speedway Park for the January Jump-Start.\u00a0 Very little room was left for racecars to park in the pit area by the time hot laps came around.\u00a0 All but the Mini Stock divison had full fields of cars which made the fans happy and a great show.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Running heats and features were the Mini Stocks and 4 Cylinder Challengers.\u00a0 Mini Stocks saw Stanton Mills top the four car field for the heat race as Tony Laporta topped heat one for the 4 Cylinder Challengers and Davey Wolf topped heat number two.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Only five Mini Stocks were in the field for the feature but it ended up being a four car field as the #09 of Tommy Saunders died coming into turn 2 on the warm-up lap.\u00a0 Blake Spencer had the pole for the 12 lap feature and as they say, &#8220;never looked back&#8221;.\u00a0 Spencer lead from green to checkered followed by Jason Intoppo, Dan Kerr, and Stanton Mills.<\/div>\n<div>\nGilbert Epsey had the pole for the 15 lap 4 Cylinder Challenger feature and lead the first couple of laps until Vinnie Richards took over.\u00a0 Richards, who had the only 4 cylinder truck in the field, looked to have a clear path to the checkered but obviously it was not his night as Davey Wolf took the point away from Richards.<\/div>\n<div>\nHowever on lap 12, the only red flag of the night came out for Richards who had a fire in the engine compartment.\u00a0 By the time Richards had stopped his ride, the fire was out but the safety crew got to him quickly to make sure he was not hurt or burned and luckily he was not.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>On the restart, R.J. Glaser got the drop on the field.\u00a0 Although he had a very hard charging and determined Tony Laporta right on his rear bumper, Glaser was able to hold off Laporta and take his first win of 2010 and the $500 purse home.<\/div>\n<div>\nFollowing Glaser to the checkered was Tony Laporta, Johnathan Green, Davey Wolf, and Shawn Kosier.<\/div>\n<div>The DIRTcar Sportsman, DIRTcar Modifieds and DIRTcar Street Stocks saw plenty of action as they ran heat races for tomorrow&#8217;s features.\u00a0 The top five in each heat was guaranteed a spot in the feature with the rest of the field running a consi race on Sunday for the feature.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Not making the modified field and will run the consi race for the DIRTcar Modifieds was Dan Arnold, Mike Spatola, P.J. Wiggins, Ronnie Chance, David Ponton, and Darron Smith.\u00a0 Smith was the winner of heat 3 but was light at the scales and was dq&#8217;d.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>In the DIRTcar Sportsman, nine cars did not make the field and will run a consi race.\u00a0 They were Steve Branton, William Northrup, Liza O&#8217;Connor, Shane Williams, Karl Haas, Drew Smith, Scott Lagassee, Jr., Richard Wells, and Trevor Gamble.<\/div>\n<div>\nRunning the DIRTcar Street Stock consi are Rick Davis, Jeff Miller, D.J. Nobles, Mick Kulak, David McCormack, Mike Eubanks, Dell Powell, Martin Butcher, and Jody Wells.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The January Jump-Start will continue tomorrow at 2 pm at Volusia Speedway park with heats and feature for the Thunder Stock and consi races and features for the DIRTcar Sportsman, DIRTcar Modifieds, and DIRTcar Street Stocks.<\/div>\n<div>\nGeneral Admission on Sunday, January 24, is $12.00.\u00a0 Students 11 &#8211; 15 is $6.00 with children 10 and under FREE.\u00a0\u00a0 Drive-in parking is $10.00.\u00a0 Pit gate and grandstands open at 12 noon.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Volusia Speedway Park is located 15 miles west of Ormond Beach, FL on State Road 40.
