{"id":1461,"date":"2010-05-10T01:18:57","date_gmt":"2010-05-10T01:18:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karnac.com\/flanews\/?p=1461"},"modified":"2010-05-10T01:18:57","modified_gmt":"2010-05-10T01:18:57","slug":"armed-forces-admitted-free-as-volusia-returns-to-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/karnac.com\/flanews\/upcoming-events\/armed-forces-admitted-free-as-volusia-returns-to-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Armed Forces Admitted FREE as Volusia Returns to Action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;\"><strong>by VSP Media<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>BARBERVILLE, FL- After a well deserved weekend off in order to celebrate Mother&#8217;s Day, five racing divisions will return to action this Saturday night, May 15th, at Volusia Speedway Park.\u00a0 Saturday has been designated as &#8220;Armed Forces Night&#8221; at VSP, and all members of our armed forces, past and present, will be admitted free of charge with proper ID.<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>David Clegg still sits atop the point standings for the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Late Models, sporting a 75 point lead on Lake Helen&#8217;s Joe Kump.\u00a0 Clegg finished second behind Jeff Mathews two weeks ago, while Kump kept it close with a fourth place showing.\u00a0 Donnie Chappell holds onto third place in the points after his race went badly on May 1st, and he certainly will be looking to make up for what was lost as he returns for another round.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The top two racers in the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division took a shot at Ocala Speedway on Friday night in a $1000 to win race, and both went home with damaged race cars.\u00a0 Aaron Barsness is just 20 points shy of Shaun Daugharty in the VSP Sportsman points, but will have his work cut out for him to repair his car and make it competitive again after getting caught up in a turn one melee on Friday.\u00a0\u00a0Daugharty won on May 1st at VSP and is looking to repeat with another victory this Saturday, thus putting a bit more breathing room between himself and Barsness in the season points race.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Hughes overcame a determined Mike Tovet as he won the Daytona Sportswear Street Stock feature on May 1st at Volusia, which leaves him just three points behind the leader, Phillip Brown.\u00a0 Meanwhile Trevor Gamble has lost some of his mojo as of late, and is now in the third spot trailing the leader by 39.\u00a0 Gamble&#8217;s run of lousy luck cannot last forever, especially as Tovet has stepped up his game in his absence, so look for further moves at the top of the 2010 points battle after Saturday&#8217;s race has ended.<\/p>\n<p>It might seem like forever since the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks raced at Volusia, and the truth is that their last outing was way back on April 17th in a feature race won by Luke Sadler.\u00a0\u00a0But if Sadler has any aspirations for catching the division points leader, Scott Mooers, he had better win a few more since Mooers has opened up a 121 point lead on Sadler.\u00a0 But while Mooers dominated the class along with Randy Strehle early in the season, neither have managed a win lately\u00a0yet remain strong contenders with top five finishes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Casey Feaster failed to make it back to Victory Lane on May 1st due to a mechanical glitch with his primary car forced him into a backup, but he managed to grab a fourth place finish regardless.\u00a0 And meanwhile the 4 Cylinder Challenger points leader, Shawn Kosier, let a turn two bobble on the last lap knock him out of a top three finish and back to a top five, but R.J.
