The Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Modifieds, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks took to the 1/3 mile and put on some of the best shows of 2012 at Bubba Raceway Park.

First up were the Hobby Stocks who saw championship contender Trevor Gamble shoot from pole to the early lead. On lap 11 caution would fly for the first time when Don Woosley grabbed too much of the berm and spun his #81 in turn 2 right in front of the leader. Just 1 caution slowed the feature event that Trevor Gamble seemed to win with ease and it helped him extend his points lead. Rodney Wright was 2nd all night but he lost points in a critical race. Hunter Gustafson took a career night to the end and finished 3rd with Mike Stalnaker and Joe Boyd the end of a solid top 5.

Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models would go out next but on lap 1 JO Nobles triggered a multi-car crash including Tyler Clem, Steve Shead, and the McGillivray boys. Christian McGillivray would be the only retirement. David Showers would take the early lead from his pole position but would lose it on a lap 4 restart as Forrest Gough shot to the lead. Gough would hit the wall with 6 to go as he tried to pass lapped traffic. Gough would retire and Showers would have his lead back! On the last chance restart Caleb McGillivray spun from 2nd while Ricky Land’s kamikazi didn’t stick and the caution flew to end the race. The order from the last scored lap was the finishing order, minus McGillivray and Land. That meant David Showers, Paul Shead, Shane Koperda, JO Nobles, and David Ponton would finish as the top 5- big points for “Big Chief!”

Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds were the middle event of the night and Kent Corbin became the 3rd oldest driver to lead a lap in 2012 as he led until lap 7 when Kyle Bronson finally got around “Cartoon Kent.” With just 3 to go the first caution would fly when Kent Corbin stopped in turn 4 ending a stellar night for driver #7. Kyle Bronson would have to hold “4-Time” Jeff Mathews off- pressure? No. “The Killer” took #12 of ‘12 while mathews had to settle for 2nd. Rich Pratt finished 3rd with Dalton Lanich besting his team-mate Garret Stewart.

The 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks had a race with everything but up front it was Shane Nichols. On lap 5 Joey Durbin spun out of turn 4 and kept going but caution flew as he spun in front of the field. With 6 to go Brian Mullins made a daring pass on Nichols that stuck for all of 3 seconds as the lapped traffic of Tommy Gamble made Mullins take an evasive action and eventually spin because of it. Nichols would hold on to take his 7th win of 2012 while Brandon Elwood made it up to 2nd. Mullins would fall to 3rd over fellow Camaro-style-body drivers Bubba Durbin and James Erickson.

The Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks had a tough race but Buddy Pope took the field to the house as he took win #7 of 2012 as he chases that championship. Reid Christensen finished a career-tying-best 2nd while he tries to win a championship as well. Dean Kinsey finished 3rd but it was all about Buddy “Fluffy” Pope as he chases his championship.

Next week is our Halloween Spooktacular! We will do a trick-or-treat and meet-the-driver on the front stretch with our RaceCar Engineering Late Models taking the lids off, Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprints going wingless, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators.
