Owens rounded the high-banked 2.66-mile race track in 51.764 seconds (184.993 mph) on her qualifying lap, only .418 seconds slower than pole sitter Dakota Armstrong’s time.

“I’m really excited about today’s race,” said Owens. “The ElectrifyingCareers.com Chevy is awesome in race trim. We’ve got a pretty good starting spot, but that isn’t an indication of how good our car really is. It’s super-strong in the draft. It’s awesome in traffic. It has what it takes to get up front.

“I started last year from the back of the field and finished sixth, so I’m not really worried about our starting spot. I’m sure the leader is going to have to go from the back to the front more than once today. Most of my teammates are starting close by me. I know we’ll do everything we can to help each other and work together. Hopefully the five of us will keep each other at the front of the pack all day and be in position to fight for the win at the end.”

The race begins this afternoon at 5:00 EST.
