Dennis Erb Jr. Captures The Dream at Eldora

Erb Wins EldoraROSSBURG, Ohio – June 11, 2016 – Dennis Erb Jr.’s voice grew shaky Saturday night in front of a packed house at Eldora Speedway. The crowd gave the Carpentersville, Ill. native a standing ovation after surviving a two-lap shootout to win his first crown-jeweled late model event, the Dirt Late Model Dream By Ferris Mowers.

“How about that Illinois?” yelled Erb, dedicating the win to the Illinoisans who traveled the 300 miles to see him hopefully win. “My heart dropped coming out of that [turn four] corner. I didn’t know what was going to happen.”

In a plethora of bone-chilling battles, Erb bought his time. When Jared Landers took the lead on lap four and Tim McCreadie moved into second position two laps later, Erb maintained more than a one-second buffer from fourth position to remain on the podium – something he accomplished for the entire race.

“I just wanted to keep hitting my marks,” Erb said.

Lap eight is when Erb began his prowl to the top with his No. 28 McBride Mack/ V.O. Mack Truck Sales Black Diamond machine. Two cautions took place during the lap, and in both McCreadie had a strong restart. The cautions regrouped the dispersing field and on lap 11, Erb overtook Landers to leave McCreadie as the only driver standing in his way. (more…)

Donny Schatz Wins Wild One for #TeamOutlaws

Claims Ninth World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Victory of the Season

061216KnoxvillePostKNOXVILLE, Iowa – June 11, 2016 – Wrecked cars and flared tempers could not hold back reigning World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz on Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway as he barely avoided an early multi-car crash and battled past Jamie Veal to score his ninth series win of the season during the Xtream Shootout powered by Mediacom.

Schatz, who started fifth, battled Shane Stewart early for fourth. After a crash on lap five caught up several of the front runners, Schatz restarted in third and then fought his way around second place Ian Madsen. As Veal worked his way through traffic, Schatz closed the distance, then commenced to battle Veal, side-by-side, lap-after-lap for the lead. Veal held tough but Schatz got around off of turn four with just three laps remaining to take the top spot.

“This place has been very, very good to me,” Schatz said. “I’ve been very blessed to not get hurt here and have the success I’ve had. This team is incredible. We can always go back to the same old setup but it’s kind of fun to try new things and try to get better. We keep playing around and we make a lot of gains and we make a lot of steps backwards but the racecar just kept getting better and better as the race went on.” (more…)

Brandon Sheppard and Jared Landers Steal Second Show at Eldora

ELDORA-650x330ROSSBURG, Ohio – June 10, 2016 – “Two” seemed to be the lucky number Friday night at the 22nd Annual Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, as Brandon Sheppard and Jared Landers became the duo to win the double-feature program in front of a packed crowd.

The Big E’s 24-degree banking is where most of the battles were held during the first feature. The victory was not only Sheppard’s fourth of the year, but also a follow-up to Thursday night’s win. Sheppard is the most recent driver to sweep both preliminary nights of an event weekend at the track since Jonathan Davenport did it at the World 100 in 2015.

Sheppard ran a similar race as the night before. His No. B5 Best Performance Motorsports Rocket machine started on the outside of first position, and he eventually shut the door on the rest of the 24-car field within the first five laps. Sheppard cleared his car for the lead at turn four on lap four.

“We got lucky starting in the front row both nights, but we had a strong car tonight,” Sheppard said. “This is a new car for this track for us. We tried a bunch of different stuff and last night we found a setup that worked. We stuck with that.” (more…)

Brandon Jones cruises to victory lane at Michigan; wins ARCA Corrigan Oil 200

Brandon JonesBROOKLYN, Mich. (June 10, 2016) – Brandon Jones took advantage of his own really fast No. 8 Menards-Valvoline Chevrolet and Kyle Weatherman’s empty gas tank to win the 35th running of the Corrigan Oil 200 Friday afternoon at Michigan Int’l Speedway.

Late-race leader Weatherman gambled on fuel but ran well short when his No. 58 St. Charles Glass Ford ran dry four laps from the finish. From there, Jones cruised under the checkered flag more than six seconds ahead of his closest rival Chase Briscoe.

“I really wasn’t too worried about the 58,” Jones said. “I really didn’t know their game plan or what fuel cycle they were on, but I was definitely confident in our game plan. We had an awesome Menards-Valvoline Chevy all week. This is my first time being here at Michigan…pretty cool to get a win in ARCA’s backyard.” (more…)

Twice as Nice: Sheppard and Davenport win doubleheader

The Dirt Late Model Dream by Ferris Mowers Returns Friday for a Second-Straight Double Feature

JD at EldoraROSSBURG, Ohio June 9, 2016 – It was a night of extremes Thursday as the first day of The 22nd Annual Dirt Late Model Dream by Ferris Mowers at Eldora Speedway delivered a doubleheader delight for Brandon Sheppard and Jonathan Davenport. While Sheppard dominated the first feature of the night, Davenport made a late push to win his A-Main.

In a 72-car entry list, Sheppard said he under-performed in both his feature race and in qualifying; however, Sheppard started the 24-car A-Main on the outside first row. The New Berlin, Ill. native ended up capturing the lead in turn four on the very first lap in turn three. He was uncontested by Terry Phillips, who lead the field into the green flag. This is Sheppard’s third win of the season.

BShep at Eldora“Early in the night we struggle really badly”, Sheppard said. “But we had a really great car in the feature. We did a little homework last year at the World 100 and got better with our older cars. We kind of did some stuff [tonight] that we were doing to them. We’re just really fortunate to come out with the win.”

On lap two, Billy Moyer moved his way up one spot to second place. His early push like Sheppard’s was not enough to challenge for the lead spot. Moyer only closed the gap to a 0.848-second margin. But, Moyer did separate himself from the rest of the field by a similar margin. With five laps remaining, Moyer’s strong run faded, leaving the door open for Ricky Thornton Jr. who eventually finished in the runner-up position; Moyer managed to hold on to the final podium spot. Schatz Scores Thrilling Win at Lincoln Park Speedway

Claims Eighth Victory of the Season and Ties Brad Sweet for Point Lead

060816_LP_GraphicPUTNAMVILLE, Ind. – June 8, 2016 – Seven-time World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz held off a red-hot David Gravel on a green-white-checkered finish to claim his eighth victory of the season at Lincoln Park Speedway on Wednesday night.

Making their first trip since 1988 to the track located just an hour from Indianapolis, the World of Outlaws returned with a thrilling show that saw Schatz hold on to the lead for all 40 laps to claim the victory and tie Brad Sweet atop the championship standings.

“I wasn’t here in ’88 but I am feeling old tonight,” Schatz said. “This place takes its toll on you – it’s a neat little place, very tricky…I’d rather it went right to the end, but I knew [David Gravel] is a racer and he is going to try something – wherever I am at he is going to try and go somewhere else.

“It’s a bonus [to be tied in the championship standings]. We are here to win races, and that’s what this team has always stood for…we have never been point’s racers and I am not going to start that now. We’re in a better position than we were a month ago and I know these guys are going to go work their hearts out.” (more…)
