The 'Mod Squad' Comes to Florida Speed Park | Jacksonville based TEAM 17 RACING is set to finally debut their two car modified effort with sophomore driver Mark Bergman and rookie Gary Fultz at Florida Speed Park on May 27th. That's the date set for the special 'Mod Squad' event at the half mile speedway.
"Everyone involved is really excited about the chance to finally get both our cars and drivers in the field. It's been a challenge to maintain both cars this season with a lot of bad luck falling on Mark, but we're not going away", says Gary Fultz of the Fultz-Bergman team.
The 'Mod Squad' event is the first of six special races scheduled throughout the summer featuring the local divisions that compete in the ARA Weekly Racing Series at the fast half mile speedway. The 50 lap special feature will pay $1,500 to win, $1,000 for 2nd place and $750 for 3rd. "This will be a great opportunity for our local modified drivers, who will have a home track advantage over some of the top modified drivers throughout the state of Florida that this race will attract," says speedway manager Louis Smith.
Mark Bergman is a 22 year old full-time business student at the University of Alabama. He is running a full racing schedule this year in the open-wheel modified division. He is attempting to win the Points Championship at Florida Speed Park and also plans to run a limited schedule at Columbia Motorsports Park in Lake City, Orlando Speedworld and New Smyrna Speedway.
Gary Fultz is a graduate of Finish Line Driving School and Finish Line Mechanics School. "Both cars are in great shape and ready to go. Stu and Haze Bergman have cut no corners, providing both Mark and myself racecars capable of winning every week. With an event like 'The Mod Squad', we felt it was our chance to get the word out there that were a committed, professional race team seeking support to help us compete with the top modified drivers in the state."
Florida Speed Park is a relatively new facility with 14 degree banks, 6 degree straights. The speedway seats 6,000 in modern grandstands, also featuring an air conditioned VIP suite for small parties. Racing action begins every Saturday at 7:00 PM with general adult admission $10 and has special discounts for children, seniors and military personnel.
