Gene Johnson was from Ft. Pierce and ran a straight eight Lincoln in this classy hand crafted mod.
"Gentleman Jim McGuirk" of Vero Beach was my hero. He was a gentleman on and off the track. Pound for pound, the car is the neatest race car for its time that I have ever seen. He also ran a time or two at Daytona in one of Marty Little's dad's cars.
"Hoppin' Harry Pullen" in his Crossley bodied GMC straight six also won many features at Eau Galle & Orlando.
The one of the Hudson Hornet is when Bill Posey was 17 years old at the Eau Gallie Speedway. Notice the 5 gallon 'fuel cell', a Jeep gas can in the back seat - they really had some safety rules in those days.

...before the days of factory made race cars, when modifieds were really one of a kind modifieds. Bob Dawson was from Orlando I'm pretty sure. He ran a small block chevy. When carburation was limited to a single two barrel, if my memory serves me correctly - don't quote me, his mech, Ted Hey, put on a two barrell from a Sherman Tank!
