7th Annual Powell Memorial 125 to Run at Citrus County Speedway Saturday

All avid Super Late Model fans, and drivers will have their eyes on the Crystal Motor Car Co. "7th Annual Powell Memorial 125" this weekend. Forty plus cars driven by the best of the best in the southeast will be going after their share of the almost $40,000 purse plus bragging rights to be added to the past winners trophy.

All the previous winners will be there except Jeff Purvis who won the first race in l996, Freddie Query 1997, David Reutimann 1998, two time winner Wayne Anderson l999 and 2001 and Mike Franklin, Jr. 2000 have all indicated they would try it again.

Dickie Anderson, The King of Florida Short Track Racing, would like to add this crown to his over 1000 short track victories plus pocket the $l,000 fast qualifier money and the $10,000 win purse.

"Mr. Excitement" Jimmy Cope, Dave Pletcher, David Rogers, Billy Bigley, Jr., Daniel Keene Sr. and Travis Kittleson, just to name a few of the Florida title holders and hot shoes from throughout the southeast.

North Carolina and Georgia are some who will enter the competition to try their hand at the l/3 mile race course at Citrus County Speedway.

And let's not forget the two time runner up and family representative James Powell III who has the ride and experience to put his bid in for his first win in the family memorial race.

Many of the local drivers who have all the talent and home track advantage to make for a winner will also be here to represent Citrus County Speedway.

Sixteen cars will qualify in time trials scheduled to begin at 5 P.M. Saturday afternoon. The top six finishers will qualify in a $l,000 to win consolation race. The top six finishers will qualify in a $l,000 to win consolation race.

Two spots will be open for pro- motor's choice with a third spot available depending on the circumstances of title holders of previous winners not making the field due to misfortune.

The payoff for the 7th Annual Powell Memorial 125 is $10,000 to win with the runner up picking up $5,000, third $4,000, fourth $3,000, fifth $2,000 and sixth banking $l,000.

The 24 starters are guaranteed $400 after running at least one lap. The B Main will run for 30 laps for $l,000 to win and second taking $500, third $400, fourth $300, fifth $200 and 6th thru 15th taking $150.

The top six will also be assured a starting spot in the 125 lap main event. The top six will also be assured a starting spot in the 125 lap event.

Fast qualifier will add $l,000 to their bank account. This will be the largest purse ever paid at this 47 year old venue and only the best will survive the run for the Powell Memorial trophy.

Friday night will set up pre-race testing and tuning for Late Models only. All spectators are invited to the pits to watch the practice session with a Bar B Q to be included with the $10.00 admission price.

There will also be a regular practice session on Thursday night for the Sportsman, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, and Thunder Stocks who will be running in 30 lap features on Saturday night. Mini Stocks will have a week off.

There will be all-night security in the pits Friday and Saturday night so when the participants get assigned their parking spots they can leave their rigs in the pits for the weekend.
