Ray Cook Conquers SAS Racing Series Stars and Stripes 40 at Cleveland Speedway

Cleveland, TN-July 13, 2013- The Southern All Star Racing Series would finally get to kick off the month of July with racing action at Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, TN with the Stars and Stripes 40 and Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC would become the 7th different winner in ten series events to date in 2013 and claim the $4,000 payday aboard his A Plus Moving and Storage/American Racer/Integra Shocks sponsored #53 MasterSbilt Race Car powered by a Jay Dickens Race Engine.

The victory by Cook was his 11th career win with the Southern All Star Racing Series for the 42 year old Tar heel State native and his first Southern All Star Racing Series since winning The Gobbler at Cleveland Speedway in November of 2011.

Derek Ellis and Ray Cook would bring the field to the green flag, with Cook taking the early lead with Ellis nipping at his heels, with Clint Smith, Jason Hiett, and Skip Arp giving chase.  Cook would begin to build his lead as the front three would start to work traffic by lap 8, with Smith taking second from Ellis.  Smith would close in on Cook in heavy traffic on lap 15, with Cook finally able to put a pair of lapped cars between himself and Smith prior to the caution waving on lap 19 for Riley Hickman who slowed in turn three with a flat right rear tire, with fifth place running Arp pulling pit side for the evening during the caution. Stars and Stripes 40 Up for Southern All Star Racing Series at Cleveland Speedway July 13

SAS LogoFayetteville, TN- July 4, 2013- The Southern All Star Racing Series will continue a busy month of July when it makes its third visit of the 2013 racing season to the 1/3 mile semi-banked clay oval known as Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, TN for the Stars and Stripes 40, paying $4,000 to the winner and $300 to start on Saturday July 13.

Along with the Stars and Stripes 40 for the Southern All Star Racing Series and other local racing divisions, Cleveland Speedway will also present a huge fireworks display during the evening.  It would also be a great opportunity for race teams that are headed north to Wytheville, VA to start Ray Cook’s Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals on July 15 to get a race in on the way to begin this series.

The Southern All Star Racing Series event at Cleveland Speedway on Saturday July 13 will feature a complete program of practice, WhitePerformance.com A-B Group Time Trials, PPM Racing Products Last Chance Showdowns, and will conclude with the 40 lap, $4,000 to win Stars and Stripes 40 A-Main.  Joining the Southern All Star Racing Series in action at Cleveland Speedway on Saturday July 13 will be the track’s Steel Head/Limited Late Model, Crate Late Model, A-Hobby, B-Hobby, and Pony/FWD divisions. Southern All Star Racing Series Invades “The Bad Fast Taz” for Summer Sizzler on July 3

TazwellFayetteville, TN- June 25, 2013- The Southern All Star Racing Series will begin the month on July at one of America’s fastest speed-plants as the tour visits Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN on Wednesday evening July 3 for the Summer Sizzler, which will pay $4,000 to win for the 40 lap mad dash around the ultra-high banked “Bad Fast Taz”.  Tazewell Speedway track promoter Gary Hall and the Southern All Star Racing Series invites everyone out for a great night of racing, huge fireworks display, and a great evening of fellowship together to help celebrate America’s 237th birthday.

Also, besides the great racing action and huge fireworks show, Tazewell Speedway and the Southern All Star Racing Series will be hosting a special drivers autograph session prior to racing action getting started on Wednesday July 3.  The drivers autograph session will begin at 7:30 and last until practice laps are set to begin at 8:00 p.m. Also, in the event of inclement weather, track promoter Gary Hall has confirmed that the Summer Sizzler event would take place on Friday July 5. Randy Weaver Wins SAS Racing Series B.J. Parker Memorial at Talladega Short Track

SAS LogoEastaboga, AL – The Southern All Star Racing Series would roll into Talladega Short Track on Saturday evening for its first official visit of the 2013 racing season and Randy Weaver would score the victory in the B.J. Parker Memorial event that honors the founder of the Southern All Star Racing Series behind the wheel of the Outlaw Race Parts sponsored #116 GRT Race Car powered by a Cornett Race Engine.

For Weaver, the defending Southern All Star Racing Series champion, the win was his second with the series in 2013 and marked the 22nd series win of his career, which ranks him sixth on the series all-time win list.

Pole sitter and top qualifier Chris Wilson would take the lead at the drop of the green flag and lead the first seven laps of the 42 lap, $4,200 to win B.J. Parker Memorial event before Randy Weaver would take the lead on lap 8 and only be slowed by one caution in the event and that would be for a slowed Dylan Ames on lap 15.  Weaver would hold off a hard-charging fourth place starting Jason Hiett of Oxford, AL in the waning laps of the contest to secure his second series victory of the 2013 racing campaign. Chris Madden Secures SAS Racing Series Scott Sexton Memorial at Volunteer Speedway

20130501-192313.jpgBulls Gap, TN- June 14, 2013- After being rained out 17 laps into the main event, the Southern All Star Racing Series would return to Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN on Friday evening and Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC would pick up where he left off before the rains came and drive to the checkered flag first in the 1st Annual Scott Sexton Memorial and pick up a $5,200 payday in the process. Madden’s win would come aboard the Century Plastics/Hamrick’s of Gaffney sponsored #44 Bloomquist Race Car powered by a Clements Race Engine.

The win by Madden marked his 40th career victory with the Southern All Star Racing Series where his third on the series all-time win list as the tour completed its first visit to Volunteer Speedway since the 2004 racing season.  (more…)

SAS Racing Series Scott Sexton Memorial at Volunteer Speedway To Be Completed Friday June 14

SAS LogoBulls Gap, TN-June 3, 2013- The Southern All Star Racing Series and Volunteer Speedway track promoters Joe and Phyllis Loven would like to announce the date that the Scott Sexton Memorial event, which was halted by rain after 17 laps were completed, will be finished.  The event will be completed on Friday evening June 14.

“All parties involved felt it was in the best interest of the race teams and race fans to get this event completed as soon as possible and with the SAS tour in action on Saturday June 15 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, everyone felt this would be the best thing to do in this situation, so as to get the event completed and race teams paid”, stated Southern All Star Racing Series Race Director Chris Tilley.  “By doing this, race fans and race teams don’t have to wait a long time and have to try to keep up with tickets and pit passes and we can get this event completed”, added Tilley. Day Continues On Southern Superstars Roll At Sayre Speedway

20130528-194444.jpgSAYRE, AL–The Southern Superstars Short Track Series returned to the ¼ mile Sayre Speedway Saturday night for the Hall Of fame 100 and Mark Day of Clarksville, TN., done what he has done all year with the series and that is win, as he picked up his third win of the season with the series and 9th career win.

Chase Oliver of Crossville AL., set fast time with a 12.60 second lap, Day second quick and Hunter Spivey of Decatur, Al., third. Oliver then rolled three for the inversion and this gave Spivey and Day the front row. (more…)

Steve Casebolt Snares SAS Racing Series 36th Annual Coca-Cola TN Memorial at Cleveland Speedway

20130501-193507.jpgMichael Despain, SAS PR – Cleveland, TN (May 18, 2013)- The Southern All Star Racing Series would visit Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, TN for the second time in 2013 on Saturday evening for the 36th Annual Tennessee Memorial event and Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN would cash in for a $4,000 payday at the Ronnie Wilkomm promoted facility aboard the D&R Motorsports owned Hicks and Ingle Contracting/B&M Construction/Harrison Redi-Mix sponsored #C9 MasterSbilt Race Car powered by a Race Engine Design power plant.

The win by Casebolt was his first-ever victory with the Southern All Star Racing Series as he became the 159th different series winner in 628 series events and also marked the fifth different winner in six series events so far during the 2013 season.

After the initial start was called back for a spin by Shawn Chastain, Steve Casebolt would jump to the race lead, with Billy Ogle, Jr. nipping at his heels, while Ray Cook and Randy Weaver dueled for the third position. The front four remained the same as Casebolt started working slower traffic on lap 11, while Ogle, Jr., Cook, and Weaver jockeyed for the runner-up spot in a spirited battle. (more…)

Mark Day Wins A Classic In Southern Superstars First Visit To Highland Rim

20130501-192313.jpgRIDGETOP, TN—The Southern Superstars Short Track Series made it’s first stop of the 2013 season at the Highland Rim Speedway in Ridgetop, TN., before a very large and enthusiastic crowd and that got to see what many believe is the best race in series history as veteran Mark Day of Clarksville TN., and up and coming star Davey Coble of Madison, TN., put on a driving exhibition fro the last 18 laps before Day came out on top after the 100 lap slugfest was over.

The action got started in qualifying at Justin Ashburn of White House, TN., set fast time and won the Lynch Tree Service Fast Qualifier award as he turned the ¼ mile track in 12.324 second, with Day setting second quick, Chase Oliver third, Coble fourth and T W Fisher rounding out the top five qualifiers. Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series hires Michael Despain as Announcer and P.R. Director

20130501-193507.jpgHUNTSVILLE, AL (May 1, 2013)—The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series will add another crew member to the tour after the official hiring of Michael Despain this week.

Despain, a native of Campbellsville, KY will join Owner Matt Wagner (Huntsville, AL), General Manager Lynn Acklin (Huntsville, AL), Race Director Chris Tilley (Somerset, KY) and series officials Rick Owens (Clinton, TN), Lynn Palmer (Knoxville, TN), Chris Wagner (Huntsville, AL) and Wayne Maybrier (Somerset, KY) as member of the SAS crew beginning this weekend as the series visits Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on Saturday May 4th for a 40-lap $4,000 to win event in conjunction with the NASCAR Weekend events at Talladega Super Speedway. Despain has already called the Smoky Mountain (March 23rd) and Tazewell (April 6th) series events from behind the microphone.
