Austin Horton All Smiles After First Career Southern All Star Win

EASTABOGA, AL–The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by Max Fab made its annual spring NASCAR race weekend stop at the Talladega Short Track and the 2017 Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series Champion Austin Horton of Newnan, GA., finally got his first career series win.  In 2017 Austin competed on the series full time and had numerous top five finishes but could never get that top spot, but his finishes got him the series championship last year.  In 2018 he made his first race back with the series count as he held off challenges from three time Southern All Star Champion Ronnie Johnson and Michael Page to get the win.

The top three worked lapped traffic as they battled for the top spot and gave the huge crowd on had a great race as Johnson made several attempts to get by Horton but had to back off, but Johnson could not rest at Page was right there with them and was looking for either driver to make a mistake and give him the chance he would need to try and get the win.

Jason of Oxford, AL., came home in the third spot driving the Jason Lively car and fifth place belonged to Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN., in his first start with the series this year.

Finishing in position sixth through tenth were Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, TN., Jadon Frame of Decherd, TN., Terry Smith of Oxford, AL., Grant Pearl of Southside, AL., and Donald McIntosh of Blairsville, GA.

RACE TIDBITS: Jay Scott of Fayetteville, TN., continues to lead the series standings as he, Mark Dodson of Caledonia, MS., and Ray McElhiney of Pulaski, TN., were the only drivers in the top seven in series points to make the show.

Drivers that moved into the top ten in points after Talladega were Riley Hickman, Jadon Frame and Eric Hickerson

2015 Southern All Star Rookie of the Year Dillon Tidmore had to drop before qualifying as oil pump problems ended his night early.

Career first Southern All Star starts went to J T Seawright of Ft Payne, AL., and Dalton Polston of Lithia Springs, GA

A big thanks to all the fans, drivers crews for the great turn out of cars for the NASCAR Weekend events and look forward to the Southern All Stars next trip to Talladega Short Track which will be August 11th for the Governor’s Cup paying $10,000 to win and it will also be the 100th sanctioned event that has been held at Talladega Short Track over the 35 year history of the series.

The next Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series event will be the first stop of the season at the Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA., the Mayhem on Saturday night May 19th paying $4,000 to win..

Southern All Stars Set Month Of September Races

FAYETTEVILLE, TN—The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series has adjusted it schedule for the month of September with a pair of 40 lap $4,000 to win races.

Saturday night September 2nd the series will make its third stop of the season at the Thunderhill Raceway in Lawrenceburg, TN., for the Labor Day Weekend 40 at the high banked ¼ mile oval. The series has held two previous events at the West Tennessee track and they have been won by Spring Hill, TN., driver Brad Skinner and the second was won by Lakeland, TN., Dane Dacus. Both of these events have drawn great crowds to Rickey Spurgeon’s track but the July 8th crowd was one of the largest in the history of the track, so race fans need to get to the track early to get a seat as there was not one to be found when the nights’ events started in July.

The second event of September will be on Saturday night September 9th at Johnny Stokes Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS., This race is the make up date for the rained out event in July, at that event 36 super late models had already checked in and then heavy thunderstorms developed at drivers meeting time making track conditions impossible to work back in and get the show in that night. This is the one and only yearly appearance at the west Mississippi track and if any indication of the turnout for the rained out event it should be a great night of racing.

Events that were scheduled to take place at the East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Al., will not take place as Southern All Star official and EAMS could come together on sanctioning agreements between the two parties.

Southern All Stars Set For 14th Annual Governors Cup At The Mag

FAYETTEVILLE, TN—The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series will once again be a part of the 14th Annual Governors Cup this Saturday night July 15th at the Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS. The Southern All Star super late models will be in action for a 40 lap $4,000 to win event along with a full racing program at the Johnny Stokes promoted gumbo track. This will be the fourth year that the Southern All Stars have sanctioned the event with Chris Wall, Bub McCool and Riley Hickman taking the wins in the previous three events.

The 2017 version of the Southern All Stars returns with a little different view this year as four time champion Riley Hickman is not on tour full time this year and this has allowed some of the young new talent in the dirt late model world to be showcased as the top four drivers in the series are all rookies and all are still battling for the 2017 crown. Austin Horton of Newnan, GA., comes into the event on top followed by Moultrie, GA., driver Tristan Sealy, then Linden, TN., driver Eric Hickerson and Acworth, GA., driver T J Reaid. All these drivers are expected to be in action along with many drivers from across the southeast including Hickman, last week’s Southern All Star winner at Thunderhill Dane Dacus, 2016 rookie of the year Brad Skinner, Trey Wood, Ray McElhiney, Ashton Winger plus many more drivers from across the southeast.

Mississippi area drivers that are expected to be in acting include Eric Cooley, Chad Thrash, Shay Knight, Billy Franklin, Brian Rickman and many more.

Pit gates will open at 3 pm with hot laps at 6:30pm with racing to follow. Magnolia Speedway information can be found at www.magnoliadirt.com
