LLOYD WINS THE BATTLE, TURNER WINS THE WAR IN NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

OCALA, FL – Ivedent Lloyd Jr. of Ocala, FL driving the Snow Brothers Special was declared the $10,000 winner in the 100-lap 8th Annual Chevrolet Performance World Championship Race on Saturday night for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series at Bubba Raceway Park.  Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA won the $20,000 NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Championship.

The engine in the B&B Produce/Dave’s Towing Special driven by apparent winner Mark Whitener of Middleburg, FL was disqualified by NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series officials for a piston violation.

The 8th Annual Chevrolet Performance World Championship Race, the first edition held at Bubba Raceway Park, will be a memorable one for a track that provided three and four-wide close quarters racing in front of a packed house, and plenty of drama, as the fate of many drivers changed lap after lap.  That included the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Championship battle.

Turner won the $20,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Championship in the Hedman Husler Special by ten points over two-time series champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN in the Eads Farms/Hardy & Associates Warrior.  It was an up and down weekend for both drivers, as they exchanged the point lead twice during the event.  (more…)

NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Aligns With The Northern States RUSH LMS

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series has entered into an alliance with the newly formed Pulaski, PA-based Northern States RUSH Late Model Series that will sanction crate late model racing in several states.  The Northern States RUSH Late Model Series will use the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS as a model for operations and rules.

The Northern States RUSH Late Model Series will implement the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS engine and tire rules, with only a few differences for the Chevrolet Performance 604 and 602 Crate Engines used by both series.  The RUSH series will also adapt the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS engine sealing program to create accountability for engine repairs and rebuilds.

The Northern States RUSH Late Model Series will be operated by veteran race organizers Vicki Emig and Mike Leone, who bring a lot of experience and knowledge to the series after working with another series in the area for the past six years.

“The decision to leave where we were and start a new crate late model series was not an easy one for us, as we have dedicated the last six years of our lives to the diligent growth and development of crate late model racing in the Northeast,” Emig said.  “With that said, after months of difficult contemplating, we came to the conclusion that we feel we can better serve the needs of both the speedways and the racers in our region by operating as an independent entity.” (more…)

SHAW PICKS UP NeSMITH CHEVROLET GUMBO NATIONALS WIN IN GREENVILLE

GREENVILLE, MS – Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL turned his 2012 season around on Saturday by winning the 6th Annual Gumbo Nationals for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series at Greenville Speedway.  Shaw led all 60 laps of the race to collect the $5,000 top prize driving the Summit Resource Development Trak-Star.

“We started out the season challenging for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Championship, and won a NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division race in May, but the last two months has been tough for our team,” said Shaw, who finished fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points.  “This win was big for us and really turned our season around.”

Shaw held off a late race challenge from Tait Davenport of Benton, KY, who caught Shaw in lapped traffic and challenged for the lead on lap 46 and lap 54.  But Davenport suddenly fell off the pace in the Murtco, Inc. Special and coasted to a stop in turn two on lap 55.   Davenport’s misfortune earned him the Dominator Race Products Hard Luck Award.

“I was pretty much committed to the top of the race track, and when we got to the lapped traffic, I tried to go to the bottom, but lost all of my momentum,” Shaw said.  “I knew someone was there challenging me, but the cautions seemed to work in our advantage all night, and we kept clear race track in front of us.” (more…)
