Continued Rain Forces Postponement of DuQuoin Event

(DUQUOIN, Ill.) – Continued rain in southern Illinois, a remnant of Hurricane Isaac’s progression through the Midwestern United States, has forced ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards officials to postpone today’s Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

Though light, the system circling the region has been consistent enough to leave the mile-long dirt track and surrounding fairgrounds unsuitable not only for racing, but also for the related activity of race teams, officials, emergency vehicles, fans, and more. Seven inches of precipitation have fallen over the area in the past three days.

Officials had expected dry conditions Monday and made the preemptive decision to push the day’s schedule back three hours to allow the track to dry, but the rain continued. (more…)

Chase Elliott Finally on Familiar Territory in Return Trip to Salem Speedway for Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic Sept. 15

(TOLEDO, Ohio) – For the most part, the tracks on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards tour are all brand new to Chase Elliott.

That said, his results so far have been impressive: a career-best second-place finish in his road course debut at New Jersey Motorsports Park, and a next-to-best fourth place finish on the very challenging Salem Speedway short track back in April. In fact, in five ARCA starts so far, he has not yet finished out of the top-10.

And when the 16-year-old son of NASCAR champion Bill Elliott returns to Salem Speedway for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic presented by Federated Car Care Saturday night, September 15, he’ll finally be on familiar ground.

“It’s going to help a lot,” Elliott said. (more…)

Young Chris Buescher, Veteran Frank Kimmel Take Intense ARCA Title Fight to DuQuoin’s “Magic Mile” Dirt Labor Day Monday Sept. 3

(TOLEDO, Ohio) – Nineteen-year-old Chris Buescher and 50-year-old veteran Frank Kimmel are preparing to take the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards championship title fight to the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds mile dirt Labor Day Monday, September 3 for the 60th running of the Southern Illinois 100. With just three races remaining on the 2012 tour – DuQuoin, Salem (Sept. 15) and Kansas (Oct. 19) – the stakes could not be higher for both.

Buescher, who won at Madison Int’l Speedway last Sunday, increased his point lead to 60 points over Kimmel headed to DuQuoin. However, Kimmel dominated with a convincing victory on the Springfield mile dirt two weeks ago, and heads to DuQuoin as a five time winner of the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care. Buescher Defines Poise in Fourth Win of 2012

(TOLEDO, Ohio) – On restart after restart near the end of the Herr’s Live Life with Flavor 200 at Madison International Speedway, Chris Buescher had to withstand challenges from some of those who join him atop the list of the best short track drivers in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards: Frank Kimmel and Alex Bowman.

For each, something was on the line. For Buescher (No. 17 Roulo Brothers Racing Ford), the chance to extend his series points lead was at hand. Kimmel (No. 44 Ansell/Menards Toyota) was aiming for second consecutive victory for the first time in four seasons and had designs on the points lead himself, and Bowman (No. 22 St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital Dodge) was trying to win from the pole for the first time in his ARCA career. Buescher Keeps Points Lead with Madison Win, His Fourth of 2012

(MADISON, Wis.) – ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards points leader Chris Buescher withstood a series of challenges from Frank Kimmel and Alex Bowman – and eight extra laps of racing – to take a series-leading fourth win in 2012 at Madison International Speedway.

Buescher (No. 17 Roulo Brothers Racing Ford) led 110 of 208 laps, including the final 34, to win the Herr’s Live Life with Flavor 200 and become the 40th driver in ARCA history with nine or more wins. He had to come back from 13th place early in the race after contact on Lap 31 sent him spinning out of the top five. He had started seventh.

The 19-year-old extended his points lead over Kimmel from 15 to 60. Kimmel took the lead from Buescher on Lap 173 but slipped up two laps later to give back the advantage. From there, Buescher survived challenges on three restarts and won by 0.7 second over Bowman, a reversal of the top two positions from the 2011 race at the half-mile oval. (more…)

Bowman Wins Fifth Menards Pole Award of 2012 at Madison

(OREGON, Wis.) – In his return to the track where he made his ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards debut and won right away one year ago, Alex Bowman set a new ARCA qualifying record at Madison International Speedway.

Bowman will start first in tomorrow’s Herr’s Live Life with Flavor 200 after winning his fifth Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell of 2012. His lap of 18.093 seconds (99.486 mph) topped Clint King’s qualifying mark from one year ago, an event at which the 16-year-old King also made his ARCA debut.

Bowman, 19, placed the No. 22 St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Dodge in a prime position to give Cunningham Motorsports a Madison win to match the one he earned with Venturini Motorsports last year. (more…)
