NeSmith_Street_Stock_Division_logo-1-800x403-2CARTERSVILLE, GA – Jeremy Idom of Hattiesburg, MS is the 2014 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies National Champion.  Idom clinched the title on Fridaynight with a spectacular win at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS for his 14th victory of the season driving the Performance Bodies “Throwback” 1957 Chevrolet.

Idom had to win the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division feature race at Hattiesburg Speedway in order to clinch the championship.  Josh Stringer of Foxworth, MS made valiant effort to play the role of spoiler, as he led all but the last lap with Idom right on his back bumper.

Idom made several attempts to work the inside in an effort to pass Stringer for the lead.  With Stinger between Idom and a National Championship, Idom made a bold inside move on the last lap to make the pass for the lead.  The fans in the stands had the joint rockin’ as Idom beat Stringer to the checkered flag and clinch the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Championship.

The win gave Idom 698 points, two points away from a “Perfect Season” represented by 14 weekly 50-point wins.  Two of Idom’s 14 wins were double wins on the same week, and only one counted in his weekly total.  Idom now has to net on two 49-point second-place finishes, and replace them with 50-point wins in the three remaining weeks of the season to get a perfect 700-point season total.

On his way to the 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Championship, Idom set a new record for number of wins in a single season with 14 and counting.  That shattered the old record set by Trey Bright of Coker, AL of nine set last year while he was on his way to the National Championship in the inaugural season for the series.

While the 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Championship has been decided, there is still a lot of racing to be done to determine the second through tenth points fund-paying positions before the season ends on September28.

Bright is second in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 682 points after netting one point with a fifth-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in the Eaton Clinic Chevrolet powered by a $3,295 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine.  Bright will now try to net on a 45 in his next series race.

Larry Faulk of Pace, FL used a second-place finish on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL to net seven points and move up to the third spot in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 678 points in the L&H Construction Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine.  Faulk will now try to net on 44.

Kevin Whittington of Brandon, MS did not compete in NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 24 competition and dropped to fourth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 674 points driving the Ergon, Inc. Chevrolet.  Whittington will now try to net on a 44 in his next series event.

David Windham of Florala, AL drove the Florala Pharmacy Chevrolet to a fourth-place finish on Saturday night in the Week 17 Make-Up Race at Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, FL to net two points.  Windham is fifth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 672 points, and will be trying to net on a 46 in his next race.

Branden Harris of Molino, FL was able to net 12 points over the weekend, as he won the Week 17 Make Up Race at Northwest Florida Speedway on Saturday night for his third NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division win of the season, and then followed that up later in the evening with a second-place effort in the Week 24 race driving the Coastal Engine and Machine Chevrolet.

That moved Harris up to the sixth spot in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 659 points.  Harris will now be trying to net on a 41 in his next series event.

Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS was not able to net any points in Week 24 competition after driving the STR Race Cars Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine to an 11th-place finish on September 1 at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL.  Leftwich is seventh in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 657 points and will be trying to net on a 41 in his next race.

Doug Lea of Milton, FL is eighth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings after netting nine points in Week 24 competition after a third-place finish on Saturday night at Southern Raceway driving the L&L Construction Services Chevrolet.  Lea is eighth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 651 points and he will be trying to net on a 40 in his next race.

Dean Shaw of Defuniak Springs, FL remains ninth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division with a best 14 week total of 648 points, but he was able to net 15 points over the weekend.  Shaw drove the S&S Electronics Chevrolet to his third win of the season on Saturday night in the Week 24 race at Northwest Florida Speedway after finishing seventh in the Week 17 Make Up Race.  Shaw will be trying to net on a 41 in his next race.

Jay Geddie of Ellisville, MS used his 14th and final week to earn full points to put himself in the Top 10 of the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division point standings.  Geddie drove the Geddie Tree Service Chevrolet to a third-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway.  Geddie rounds out the top ten of the standings with a 14 week total of 640 points, and will now try to net on a 38 in his next series race.

In other NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 24 action, Wayne Hawthorne of Jay, FL drove the Prescott Gas Chevrolet to his second win of the season on September 1 at Flomaton Speedway.  Sean Goodwin of Pensacola, FL took his third win of the season on Saturday night at Southern Raceway driving the Climate Control of Pensacola Chevrolet.  There was one Week 24 rainout and that was at St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA on Saturday night.

A total of 287 different drivers have earned points in 24 weeks of NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division competition.  The complete NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division point standings can be found on the Points page of the NeSmith Racing web site at www.nesmithracing.com.
