The UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds headlined the night with $1500 to win and Double Points on the line. Also, the Sportsman, Gladiators, and Florida Mini Sprints Association took to the clay in search of points and glory.

The Sportsman opened the night and on the opening lap “Big Puddin” Billy Costello found his 00 off course and around. As the caution came out Davey Kinsey, Sonny Thompson, and Forrest Gough made contact in turn 1 which ended Kinsey’s night. Sonny Thompson took the early lead but on lap 3 JO Nobles drove the 18 around Thompson’s 75 and soon after Austin Clark spun in turn 2. A lap later Ricky Land brought the caution out when his 66 stopped on the frontstretch. This allowed the hard charging Chris Shea and Forrest Gough to catch up to the field in front of them. On lap 6 the caution was thrown for debris on the frontstretch. A 5 lap run followed in which Kevin Mills and Billy Costello drove into the top 4. The final caution of the night, that for Bill Adkins spin entering turn 3, set up a restart with Nobles up front, Mills behind him, and Gough in 3rd. They wouldn’t stay that way for the final 9 but Nobles did take his 2nd win in succession. Gough and Mills swapped at the end and David Ponton finished 4th. Matt Johnson rounded out the top 5. Bill Adkins was the final running car in 6th with Billy Costello 7th after he blew it up. Sonny Thompson, Austin Clark, and Chris Shea completed the top 10.

Next up were the Florida Mini Sprints with a tight battle between Chris Pacetti and David Pleaugh for the FMSA championship. Right at the start Dylan Colding spun the 23D and Sheldon Kinser, Jr. made contact which ended his night. Colding continued on. Lead changes began on lap 2 when Tommy Bowden shot past John Crowder and the next lead change happened on lap 4 when Chris Pacetti put Bowden behind once more. Later in the lap David Pleaugh spun and Bowden made contact and flipped his 31. Bowden and Pleaugh were okay. After a 3 lap green flag run Eddie Moss flipped his 1M and Rudy Nonnemacher flipped his 69 in evasive action. Both were okay and Moss actually continued. Nick Snyder spun 4 laps later which gave Eddie Moss, Jr. another shot at Pacetti with John Craddock licking his chops in 3rd. Steve Crabtree had been darting through the field as if he was running from age on his brithday. Eddie Moss brought out the lap 16 caution with Pacetti, Crabtree, and Moss Jr. in the top 3. Crabtree gave it a valiant effort but Pacetti held on for the win and became the first 2-time winner in the FMSA at Bubba Raceway Park in 2011. Crabtree took 2nd, Moss, Jr. 3rd, and John beat Austin as the Craddock’s made it a family battle for 4th. Dirk Miller took 6th, Dylan Colding an impressive 7th, Rae Lynne Moss took 8th, David Hall 9th, and John Crowder rounded out the top 10.

Scott Kurtzner, Corey Howard, Bob Johnston, Michael Flick, Larry Burkins, Dave Barber, Dale Murray, Garret Stewart, and Rich Pratt found themselves in the pile up in turn 1 lap 1. The restart wasn’t much kinder to the UMP Open-Wheel Modified drivers as Jason Davis spun and Scott Mooers, Henry Hall, Michael Flick, Ivedent Lloyd, Jr., Wayne Hammond, and Rich Pratt all got a piece of the wreck. After a lap was scored Paul Sizemore went around and the new rule about solo spins ended his night. A lap later it was Ron Burgess’ turn. The restart consisted of Buzzie Reutimann, Jeff Mathews, and Kyle Bronson in the top 3. The next spin was Larry Burkins lap 3 spin. Burkins had been running 4th but the spin ended his night. With the spins it allowed Ronnie Chance, Wayne Hammond, and Scott Mooers to drive through the field. On lap 4 it was Chance, however, that spun, ending his chances. Hammond, Joe Belkey, and Flick did an impressive job with their synchronized spin in turn 4 in evasive action. On the restart Jim Passino became the next victim and team-mate Johnston and Wayne Hammond took the evasive. The final caution was for 2nd place Kyle Bronson’s spin. The green and white came out together and Buzzie Reutimann went “First Class” with the Dream Machine. Mathews took points with 2nd and Lloyd salvaged some with 3rd. Wayne Hammond put his 40 in 4th and Rich Pratt quietly rounded out the top 5. Bob Johnston was 6th, Garret Stewart drove back up to 7th even after all of his troubles. Joe Belkey kept quiet all night and walked away 8th, Michael Flick was 9th, and Dave Barber took a top 10 in honor of his father.

This time around for the Gladiators they went the wrong way around. Lap 1 was unkind to all 4 divisions and Stephen Frankland was the victim as his 7UK stopped in turn 2. Reid Christensen pulled off at this time and watched the championship fade a little farther away. All is not lost but it will be a tough task now. The next 12 were run caution free and Harold Lewis kept the 48 out front for all of them. Ray Hunter had been threatening but lost it all when the left front escaped his car. The car came to rest in turn 1 and the tire made it all the way out to the backstretch. Harold Lewis went flag-to-flag with Shane Guessford in 2nd. Steve Cox watched his son take a win and he took 3rd home himself. An impressive run for Tiffany Shaw resulted in her finishing 4th. Chase Gustafson rounded out the top 5. Lake Smith was 6th, Spud Lockwood 7th, Ray Hunter 2 laps down in 8th, Steve Johnson 9th, and Stephen Frankland put the Orlando Kia 7UK in 10th.

Next week-end is the return of the RaceCar Engineering Late Models. Alongside are the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks in the long awaited $500 to win Double Points race and the Gladiators. Sportsman drivers please watch the schedule daily. For more information you can go to www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway hotline!
