Lavonia, Georgia – After post-race protest and inspection Brent Dixon of Elberton, Georgia has been declared the winner of the $3000 Late Model Mania FASTRAK City Chevrolet Touring Division event at Lavonia Speedway. Dixon picked up his first career FASTRAK Touring event win aboard his Monty Dixon Racing / SWIFTCO / Jacky Jones Automotive #1 Rocket. “We had a really good car. We struggled a little when the track got all those crumbs on it. But it was a good day for us.” said Dixon in his post race interview.
Dixon crossed the finish line as the 2nd place finisher but he was declared the winner of the event on Tuesday after the apparent winner’s engine was found to be illegal. Dixon was followed to the line by Franklin, North Carolina’s David McCoy; Chris Cantrell of Chester, South Carolina; Woodruff, South Carolina racer Lee Cooper and defending City Chevrolet Touring Division Champion David Smith of Inman, South Carolina.
Dixon was the VP Race Fuels Fastest Qualifier on Saturday and picked up the win in the Hoosier Race Tires Heat Race number one to put himself on pole position. At the outset of the feature event Dixon settled into second with Cantrell right on his rear deck. Cantrell slipped by Dixon and eventually took the point. But as the race wore on Cantrell began to fight handling issues that caused him to slip backwards. Dixon rallied back to the second spot to put himself in position to pick up the race win. “I am glad to get that win. It was good to run well at our home track after it had been closed for so long. Thanks to everyone who got Lavonia back open and racing. It was a good event and we look forward to getting back over there every chance we get.” Dixon said.
