Tanner English Two For Two In Duck river Southern All Star Action

RACE RECAP: WHEEL, TN–The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by Max Fab made stop #2 of the 2018 season at the Duck River Raceway Park in Wheel, TN., and before a packed grandstand Tanner English of Benton, KY., moved to the high side of the track in the final 10 laps and then passed race long leader Brad Skinner on lap 36 to get his second career Southern All Stars win.  “If I was going to get around Brad I know I had to go to the top and with him staying on the bottom he was being held up by lapped cars and I know that would be my only chance to get around him” said English.

Skinner came home in the second spot and was racing with a heavy heart as his father was laid to rest earlier in the afternoon and Brad was also running a car that was pieced together from two cars as he flipped a car last weekend at Winchester.

Third place went to Scott Cook of Shelbyville, TN., in his best career Southern All Star run.

Fourth to John Owenby from his 9th starting spot.

Fifth to Jay Scott current points leader who as up and down in the top ten all night long.

Finishing in sixth place was David Brannon, seventh to David Seibers in his best run with the series this year, eighth to Jadon Frame, ninth to Terry English and tenth to Dane Dacus.

RACE TIDBITS: Southern All Star point contenders Jay Scott had another solid run with a top five finish, movers in points Brad Skinner, Riley Hickman and Joseph Faulkner.

2017 Southern All Star winner Dane Dacus made his first start of the season with the series.

Longtime Southern All Star competitor Jeff Walker of McMinnville, TN., returned to action.

Mitch Thornton of Columbia, TN., had a shoulder pop out of socket after contact with Mark Dodson in the B main but was ready go by feature time.

First time starts with the series this season include Scott Cook, Dane Dacus, Jeff Walker, Jason Walker, Jeremy Taylor and Kevin Lovvorn

The next Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series event will be Saturday night August 4th at the Blue Ridge Motorsports Park in Blue Ridge, GA., a 40 lap $4,000 to win event.

Don O’Neal Dominates at Mansfield

MANSFIELD, OH (July 1, 2018) – Don O’Neal brought the Clint Bowyer Racing, Club 29 to Victory Lane for the first time this season in dominating fashion. The former Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion led all 50 laps of the Freedom 50 on Sunday night at Mansfield Motor Speedway.

O’Neal took the lead at the start of the race and never looked back, going unchallenged for his 44th career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win. It was his first Series win since the Pittsburgher 100 last October. Scott Bloomquist and Jimmy Owens battled for second for several laps with Bloomquist finally able to pull away from Owens in the last half of the race. Earl Pearson Jr. finished in fourth followed by Hudson O’Neal in fifth.

Starting on the outside front row, Don O’Neal was slowed by a handful of cautions. He closed out the race with an over four second margin of victory over Bloomquist. In the series championship points standings, O’Neal becomes the eighth driver in the top ten to earn a win in 2018.

“It seems like a long time since we have been in Victory Lane. My hat is off to the whole crew, they worked so hard getting us headed in the right direction. Anthony Burroughs [Crew Chief] and my team, they have never given up this season. They are making us better every week. My crew was signaling me so I knew I had a pretty good lead, but I didn’t know it was as much as it was.”

Bloomquist completed his second straight podium finish and was able to close the gap on points leader, Jonathan Davenport, who finished 12th. “He [O’Neal] was a little better tonight. We had some issues with our carburetor. Don was good and we couldn’t run with him. We will take this second place and head to the next race. Everything we learned tonight is geared toward the Dirt Million here in August.”

Owens took third in a competitive run as he and Bloomquist battled for second for several laps. “We had a good hot rod tonight, but tightened up the car a bit too much. Congrats to Don O’Neal and his crew for a great run tonight.”

The winner’s Clint Bowyer Racing, Clements Racing Engines-powered entry is sponsored by: Peak Antifreeze and Coolant, iRacing.com, Crawford Outdoor, Cometic Gasket, Penske Racing Shocks, Sunoco Race Fuels, and Clint Bowyer Autoplex.

Completing the top ten were RJ Conley, Dennis Erb Jr., Devin Moran, Dale McDowell, and Josh Richards.

Jameson Notches First Lucas Oil Triumph

PORTSMOUTH, OH (June 30th, 2018) Jason Jameson became the newest winner on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tour, claiming his biggest career victory on Saturday night at Portsmouth Raceway Park.

Jameson took the lead from Scott Bloomquist on lap 33 and then had to hold off the challenges from Josh Richards. A caution with ten laps to go turned into a two-car battle between Jameson and Richards with the Indiana driver crossing the line to cap off a very exciting race.

Jameson joined Magnolia Motor Speedway winner Hudson O’Neal as back-to-back first-time series winners. Richards finished in second with Scott Bloomquist in third. Rod Conley was fourth and Tim McCreadie took fifth.

Surrounded in victory lane by several well-wishers, an emotional Jameson thanked a multitude of people. “I can’t thank my crew enough, especially Tim, Jeff, and Tony and everybody who makes this happen. I don’t want to see this month end. I wish my car owner James [Rattliff] was here to see this. Scott [Bloomquist] drove the wheels off of that thing. It made me get up and drive a little harder.”

Jameson survived the next to last restart of the race as it appeared both Richards and Bloomquist were primed to take the win away. Richards briefly got the lead back, but Jameson fought to regain the top spot. “It was fun racing with those guys. They raced really hard and clean. You could throw a slider on them and they would return the favor without running over you. I felt a vibration near the end I think the motor was getting hot. I tried to run into the corner and keep my speed. I just about lost it in turn two with a few laps to go.”

Richards was looking for his third LOLMDS win of the year. It nearly came to fruition as he came home in second with the Best Performance Motorsports, COLT Firearms, Rocket Chassis. “It was a pretty crazy start there. Scott [Bloomquist] started off good and then we got it going up top. He [Jameson] did a great job tonight. Thanks to the fans for coming out and enduring this night. They saw a great show.”

“After about four or five laps the tires would get really hot. We had to back-pedal there for a little bit and then he [Jameson] started to pull away. This place is a lot of fun. I think it has been different every time we have been here. It was the first-time we had run the cushion for that long. We will come back later this year and give it another try.”

Bloomquist was in the thick of things for most of the race and took the third spot at the finish. “He [Jameson] was just a little bit better than us tonight. He could run the cushion. It was a little rough on us to run the top. We just had to move down to the bottom and see if we could get something working there. The top was just too dominant tonight.”

The winner’s James Rattliff-owned Swartz by Boggs car is powered by a Pro Power Racing Engine and sponsored by: MGL Auto Sales, On-Time Courier, JRR Motor Sales, 4B Motorsports, Hatcher’s Auto Sales, Keyser Manufacturing, The Auto Outlet, and B&B Motorsports.

Completing the top ten Michael Chilton, Hudson O’Neal, Jimmy Owens, Mason Zeigler, and Gregg Satterlee.

VanderBeek golden in Brown County USMTS Tilt

ABERDEEN, S.D. (June 29)–Nobody passed Zack VanderBeek in the USMTS Hunt for the Casey’s Cup main event Friday night at the Brown County Speedway as he led all 40 laps en route to a $3,000 payday and his 46th career United States Modified Touring Series victory.

Johnny Scott, on the other hand, passed just about every other car in the feature race except VanderBeek, and saw a miraculous run from the 17th starting spot end with a second-place ribbon.

Starting third, VanderBeek quickly disposed of front-row-starting Lance Mari and Lucas Schott to take control of the race at the onset. The 33-year-old from New Sharon, Iowa, never looked back.

If he had looked back he would have seen Scott reeling him in during the last dozen laps of the race. Relegated to the Real Racing Wheels “B” Main after a tough heat race, Scott jumped into action quickly in the main event as he picked off his competition lap after lap.

While VanderBeek was leading the field back to the flagstand each time around the high-banked 1/3-mile clay oval, Scott was climbing the ladder. He moved into the top five at the halfway mark, and then passed local favorite Alex Guthmiller with 14 laps to go.

Scott narrowed the gap behind VanderBeek and closed to within a few feet, but even a couple of late-race cautions wasn’t enough to propel him past ‘The Z-Man’ and the 2010 USMTS Rookie of the Year followed the 2004 USMTS Rookie of the Year to the checkered flag.

Making jut his second career USMTS start, Guthmiller ran a strong second for most of the contest before eventually crossing the finish in third ahead of Mike Stearns and Terry Phillips.

Defending race winner Stormy Scott claimed the sixth spot, Trevor Anderson was seventh, Ryan Gustin wound up eighth, Travis Saurer passed nine cars to get to ninth and Nebraskan Kyle Prauner rounded out the top 10 finishers.

SATURDAY: The weekend wraps up Saturday with the inaugural USMTS event presented by Ironhide at the Devils Lake Speedway in Crary, N.D. Pure Stocks, Wissota Street Stocks and Wissota Midwest Modifieds will round out the four-division program at the popular dirt oval.

Gates open at 4 p.m., hot laps begin at 6:30 and the green flag waves at 7 p.m. General admission is $20 in advance or $25 on race day. Youth (6-12) are $5 in advance or $10 on race day, and a family pack is available in advance for just $30. Kids under 6 are admitted free of charge. Pit passes are $30.

Fans can get $2 discount coupons on race day at the Casey’s General Store located at 309 North U.S. Hwy. 281 in Carrington, N.D.

The Devils Lake Speedway is a 1/3-mile semi-banked clay oval located 1.3 miles east of Doyon on US 2 between mile markers 287 & 288, then south. For more information, call (701) 398-3577 or (218) 469-0576 or go to www.dlspeedway.com online.
