Stremme Strong In DIRTcar Nationals Opener

Second Career Win in DIRTcar UMP Modifieds at Volusia Speedway Park

BARBERVILLE, FL — Feb. 6, 2018 — The premier drivers and teams within the DIRTcar UMP Modified ranks from across North America converged to Volusia Speedway Park (FL) for night number one of the 47th Annual DIRTcar Nationals. A stellar field of 65 teams made their way to the Sunshine State to compete in the first of seven straight nights of competition for the open-wheeled weekly warriors. David Stremme, originally from South Bend, IN and now calls Mooresville, NC home, shot out to the lead on the opening lap from his third starting spot and held off two-time defending DIRTcar Nationals Champion, Nick Hoffman to score his second career Gator.

“We were pretty good tonight, but I feel like we still have a lot of work to do. We’re just ok and we know that. Its only night one,” Offered the 40-year-old owner of Lethal Chassis after his victory. “Things will change quite a bit the rest of the week and the competition here is pretty strong. Real happy though, have to thank all the sponsors. Definitely Penske Racing Shocks. This is the first race with them on the car, so we’re pretty proud of that.” He added.

The first Feature of the DIRTcar Nationals would see NASCAR Xfinity Series star, Justin Allgaier and Hoffman lead the mammoth 28-car field to chief starter, Dave Farney’s green flag to begin their 20-lap Feature. Stremme, who started on the inside of the third row, quickly shot around the front row and grabbed the early advantage while the rest of the field jockeyed for position. Hoffman fell back to as far as fifth, before regrouping and picking off cars one by one until he got back up to second.

As the laps clicked off, Hoffman closed the gap on Stremme and caught a break when the caution flag flew with just a single lap to go. That set up a one-lap shootout between Stremme and Hoffman and on the restart, Stremme got the jump on both Hoffman and Allgaier, who was running in the third spot. Stremme would get away from both and cross the stripe first en route to his first DIRTcar Nationals Feature win since the 2015 season and second of his career.

Hoffman settled for second as Kyle Strickler, who won one of the three Last Chance Showdowns to get into the show, started 19th and completed the podium finishers. Chase Collins, who started 13th, finished fourth as Zeke McKenzie, who started 11th, finished off the top five. NASCAR Camping World Trucks Series regular, Justin Haley was sixth after starting 25th while Kenny Wallace, Michael Long, K.C. Burdette and Allgaier, who faded on the last restart, were the top 10.

Night two for the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds will see the teams return for the next $1,000 payday. The Arctic Car All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars will race for their first of two nights of action before the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars race for three nights in a row starting on Friday, February 9th. Winter Freeze Kicks Off 2018 FASTRAK Racing Series Schedule with $23,135 Total Purse

The temperature may be cold, but the season is ready to heat up for the FASTRAK Racing Series. As part of Winter Freeze at Screven Motor Speedway, the Chevrolet Performance Late Models will hit the red clay to battle for over $23,000 in two complete shows. The FASTRAK Racing Series is set to begin its 15th season, February 9th and 10th at the Sylvania, GA race track. Drivers will compete for $2,000 to win on Friday and $3,000 to win on Saturday.

“I can’t think of a better place to kick-off our 2018 season,” said FASTRAK General Manager DJ Irvine, “We always have a strong field at Screven and fantastic racing.”

The FASTRAK Racing Series will continue with the new format, which was introduced at Screven in the 2017 season finale. Competitors will be split into two qualifying groups, based on pill draw, A and B. Heat race lineups will be determined by qualifying times with Group A making heats 1 and 3 and Group B making heats 2 and 4. The new format still produced the same quality of racing that everyone has come to expect from the FASTRAK Racing Series. Series officials decided to implement the change for the entire 2018 season.

“We used the new format after several drivers had asked for a change,” stated Irvine, “we always listen to their input and are willing to try something new. This time, they were right.”

The 2017 season saw a competitive point battle throughout the season, and the same is expected in 2018. The Championship, won by Benji Hicks, was locked up in the next to final race, also at Screven Motor Speedway. FASTRAK Racing Series is a part of the Winter Freeze for the first time.

In FASTRAK’s last appearance at Screven, Travis Pennington of Stapleton, GA took home the victory in the $2,000 to win event on November 17th. On November 18th, Dillon Brown of Gaffney, SC beat the field to the checkered flag to collect $3,000 in the FASTRAK Racing Series season finale.

Drivers wishing to compete in the FASTRAK Racing Series tour can send in their membership forms to the office or fill them out at Screven Motor Speedway. The 2018 membership form is available on the FASTRAK website, fastrakracing.com.

Full purse for Friday, February 9th:
1) $2,000; 2) $1,000; 3) $700; 4) $600; 5) $500; 6) $450; 7) $400; 8) $375; 9) $350; 10) $325; 11) $315; 12) $300; 13) $275; 14) $265; 15-24) $250 Total: $10,355

Holding Off Overton, Davenport Wins at East Bay

TAMPA, FL (February 6, 2018) – Jonathan Davenport fought off a furious late-race challenge from Brandon Overton to win night two of the Wrisco Industries 42nd Annual Winternationals – presented by E3 Spark Plugs at East Bay Raceway Park.

A caution with 22 laps complete set up and eight-lap shootout between Davenport and the tenth-place starting Overton. The two raced the outside line around the 1/3-mile oval using every inch of the cushion that remained. Davenport went to the outside of a lapped car as Overton went low, heading into turn one on the final lap. Overton slid almost all the way up the track, but left Davenport room as he went on to take his third career win in the Winternationals.

Tonight, marked the first win of the newly formed team for car owner Lance Landers and his driver Davenport, who recorded his 28th career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory. Overton finished second in the Chip Stone, Randy Weaver-owned entry, followed by opening night winner Brandon Sheppard grabbing third in the Mark Richards Racing, Rocket. Josh Richards and Tyler Erb completed the top five drivers.

In Lucas Oil Victory Lane Davenport recalled thinking he was going to lose the race during the waning laps. “I thought I had run over something during those last few laps. The car wasn’t the same, but it’s great to get that first win for Lance Landers. Thanks to my crew, Jason Durham, Kevin Rumley, and everyone that helps. They have worked their tails off, we have a few more days to go. Jason and Kevin put their heads together after last night and we were spot on today. They always say the first one is the hardest to get. I just hope my crew is as proud of me as I am of them. I just want say hello to everyone watching back home. My son Blaine and wife Rachel I know are tuned in to watching it online.”

Overton was pleased with his performance after a tough start to his Speedweeks at Golden Isles. “It hadn’t been nearly as good of a start to speedweeks so far, as it was last year that’s for sure. We just need to race a little bit more. As I said, we have had a terrible start to the year. Hopefully with this run, we can get rolling. The slide job on the last lap got off to a good start, but at the end I was thinking I need to get out of it or I could wreck both cars.”

Sheppard was looking for his second win in a row but finished third. “On that final restart, I chose the bottom. I thought I could get enough grip off the corner and then shoot across to get to the top of the track. They [Davenport and Overton] had a way better restart than I did. I went out on a limb and chose the bottom. A first and a third to start the week is great. I need to get qualifying better. I haven’t qualified very well since we have been down here. I think if we do that better, then we will start up front in these races.”

The winner’s Lance Landers Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by: Crop Production Services, Spartan Mowers, Valvoline, ASC Warranty, Penske Racing Shocks, and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas.

Completing the top ten were Bobby Pierce, who started 24th, Kyle Bronson, Devin Moran, Earl Pearson Jr., and Timothy Culp.
