CARS Tour Announces 2018 Season Schedule and Unprecedented Competitor Incentive Programs

Mooresville, NC 8/24/17 – The CARS Tour announced the 2018 schedules for both the Super Late Model Tour and the Late Model Stock Car Tour during a press conference at South Boston on Friday evening, along with several incentive programs that the series hopes will boost car counts and loyalty amongst teams in the future.

For the first time in CARS Tour history, the SLM and LMSC Tours will not run identical schedules, as the Late Model Stock Car Tour will run 12 races in 2018, while the Super Late Model Tour will only run nine races. Both divisions will still share seven races with each other during the 2018 season, including the Mid-Atlantic Classic at Orange County Speedway, the Throwback 276 at Hickory Motor Speedway, and the season finale at South Boston Speedway.

The CARS Tour will also venture to five new tracks for the 2018 season. The CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour will make stops at Wake County Speedway, Ace Speedway, Carteret County Speedway and Kingsport Speedway for the first time in the series’ history. The Super Late Model Tour will travel to Tennessee on April 7th to participate in a combination race with the Championship Racing Association and Southern Super Series at Fairgrounds Speedway.

Changes to the purses in both divisions were also announced in Friday’s press conference. The CARS LMSC Tour purse, which is based on a 28-car field, will be increased by 12% in 2018, with the average purse for each race being $32,450 in comparison to the $28,875 spread out amongst the drivers in 2017. A driver who wins a CARS LMSC Tour race in 2018 will earn $6,000 instead of $5,000, and any driver who starts a race will automatically earn $700.

The purse for the Super Late Models in 2018 will also be based on a 28-car starting field, with one major change being that the purse for SLM events will be aligned with other SLM sanctioning bodies. Unlike the LMSC Tour, four races in the SLM Tour will award $10,000 to the winner of the event, which will be the races at Myrtle Beach Speedway, Anderson Motor Speedway, the Mid-Atlantic Classic, and a race that has yet to be announced for May 20, 2018.

The CARS Tour also announced the Touring Twelve program for the Late Model Stock Car Tour, which is a loyalty program that will consist of twelve Late Model teams that plan to compete in every points event for the 2018 season. There will be several benefits for Touring Twelve teams that will include a reduced entry fee of $825, and a guaranteed minimum of $1,000 in earnings for each race. Touring Twelve teams will also receive two sets of discounted Hoosier tires, four complimentary race tickets to all CARS LMSC Tour points races, and an opportunity to be featured on CARS Tour merchandise.

In order for teams to participate in the Touring Twelve program, CARS LMSC Tour teams must sign an agreement to participate in all regular season races and complete driver and owner registrations by March 2, 2018. Drivers will be required to have their name and likeness used on CARS Tour branding and merchandise, and must be committed to participate in limited driver appearances throughout the season, along with running a special throwback scheme at the Throwback 276 on August 4, 2018.

There will also be a loyalty program for CARS LMSC Tour competitors who do not participate in the Touring Twelve program. Any car owner in the division that competes in three consecutive races will receive a $500 bonus as a part of their winnings for the third event, which could result in an additional $2,000 in winnings for the 2018 season. A driver who participates in this program is not required to start in the season opener at Tri-County, and can run any three consecutive LMSC Tour races of their choice.

Other programs announced by the CARS Tour include a Hometown Hero bonus, in which any non-CARS LMSC Tour regular who is in the top three in a track’s LSMC points prior to the CARS Tour arrival will receive free Hoosier Tires for the CARS Tour race at that track. Information regarding finances and fees for CARS Tour teams will remain the same with the exception of late fees, which will drop to $100 in 2018 as opposed to the $250 late fee implemented in 2017.

SPRING AND GORHAM BIG WINNERS SATURDAY NIGHT AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

Auburnale Speedway celebrated its 75th Anniversary Saturday evening in front of an enthusiastic crowd, so enthusiastic that the track ran out of hot dogs (priced at 75 cents for the night) before the races actually got under way!

The big event of the night was the 50-lap contest for the Sunshine State Challenge Series (SSCS) Modified Mini Stocks and it was point leader Chris Spring of Auburndale setting quick time at 15.357 seconds. Lakeland’s Chuck Frazier was second fastest at 15.422 followed by the 15.646 lap of Tampa’s Ken Nurse, Jr. Jeff Firestine and Mike Kerrivan were fourth and fifth quick.

Things got off to a rocky start, though, as the plug came out of the oil cooler of Brandon Yates’ car coating the upper groove of the track with oil yet going unnoticed by the drivers and officials. As the field took the green and headed into turn one, the cars in the outer groove all went for wild rides. Kerrivan got the worst of it taking a hard shot into the concrete with the right rear of his machine. Jimmy Frazier also nosed into the wall but continued after a brief check of his racer.

At this point, it was going to be a lengthy clean-up, so the field was sent back pit side and the intermission was moved up to take place while the track surface was made race-ready. In order to allow drivers involved to make repairs, the Mod Mini race was moved to the end of the night’s race schedule.

Eventually the cars got back on track and it was Nurse who took the early lead only to see Spring zip by him for the top spot on the third lap. Frazier followed suit one lap later as he moved into second ahead of Nurse and Firestine. They continued to run in order until the only caution flag of the event was thrown for a slowing Yates on lap 19. Yates’ car was pushed back to the pits where he joined Jimmy Frazier who had fallen out earlier.

On the restart, Nurse suddenly pulled into the infield while running third and called it a night. From there it was all green flag racing as Spring led the remaining laps easily to score the victory and add to his point lead. Frazier was a comfy second, well ahead of third place Firestine who ran the second half of the contest with no brakes. Fourth went to Kerrivan after his crew did a fantastic job of repairing his car after his earlier fling with the wall. Scott Bumgardner took the checker in fifth and was trailed by Rachelle Rudolph, David Myers, Sr., Nurse, Yates and J. Frazier.

The other big race of the night was the 50-lap run for the V-8 Bombers presented by Allgate Solutions. Making his first start of the season here, Nick Malverty of Spring Hill drove the Mike Hubbard Special to fast time with a lap of 16.492 seconds just a tick of the watch faster than the 16.531 lap turned in by Ferndale’s Kyle Peters. SSCS V-8 Bomber point leader George Gorham, Jr. of Winter Haven opted to leave his own car home since this was not an SSCS point race but got the opportunity to drive Bubba Healey’s new Camaro and he set third quick time at 16.567 just ahead of Danny Burchfield and Auburndale Speedway V-8 Bomber point leader James Wright III.

Burchfield snared the early lead and was looking strong while Wright, who was not very happy with his qualifying effort, trailed closely eventually slipping by Burchfield on the 12th lap. The race went all the way to lap 28 without a caution before Brey Holmes looped his machine in turn two. Three laps after the restart, Gorham and Peters snuck under Burchfield to take over the second and third spots.

On lap 33, Wright suddenly slowed and pulled out of the event as he lost second gear in the transmission. Gorham took over the lead just before the second, and final, caution of the race came out for a turn two tangle between Healey (in his back-up Chevelle) and Adam Briggs. Both were able to continue.

Despite fading brakes, Gorham was able to hold Peters at bay to score the win. “He (Peters) had a chance to just knock me out of the way and he probably should have,” said Gorham. “But he doesn’t drive like that… he races you clean and I can appreciate that,” Gorham continued.

Burchfield came home with a solid third place effort while Jody Gill had the drive of the night. Gill missed practice and qualifying, started last on the grid and drove his way to a nice fourth place finish, just ahead of Makverty who never seemed to get fully on track during the race. Sixth went to Holmes trailed by Briggs, Healey, Ronnie Abney, Wright, Jeff McCaw, Ricky Norman and Brandon Duchscherer.

Chris Narramore, Sr. led all the way to win the Q Mini Stock feature and add to his already insurmountable point lead. Narramore dedicated his victory to his uncle, Roger Guy, who passed away earlier in the week. John Cummins, Jr. had yet another runner-up finish trailed by Bruce Cozad, Matt Cummins and Fred Martin. Donald Gatlin, who was a strong second to Narramore in the heat, did not start the feature after a problem was detected with his carburetor.

Dustin Wilson grabbed the lead from Keith Cantrill on lap eight then went on to score his 10th Scrambler win of the season. Cantrill stayed close but had to settle for second ahead of William Kerns, Chris Falkner and Gene Connell III. Wilson also won the heat race.

The Mini Cup feature had its share of yellow flags but when all was said and done, 13-year-old Douglas Herrin, Jr. had scored his first career feature win after coming close so many times before. Heat winner Russell Bush had to settle for second on this night while Maria Martins impressed everyone by driving hard to third place in her first-ever feature race of any kind.
Easton Bush, also in his first-ever race, was fourth with Clay Samuels fifth.

Richards Wins Dirt Track World Championship; Clinches First Lucas Oil Title

PORTSMOUTH, OH (October 21, 2017) – Josh Richards completed a dream night at Portsmouth Raceway Park on Saturday night. The West Virginia native won his first-career Rhino Ag Dirt Track World Championship – Presented by Optima Batteries, worth $100,000, and the 2017 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Championship, worth $75,000.

Richards became the fourth different leader of the race when he passed race leader and defending DTWC winner, Brandon Sheppard for the lead after a lap 46 restart. Richards led the rest of the way to take his tenth series win of the season over Sheppard, Jonathan Davenport, Mike Marlar, and Jared Hawkins.

Jonathan Davenport started on the pole and led early on. Sheppard took over the point on lap 36, and then began pulling away from the field until a caution on lap 46 slowed his pace. On the restart, Richards; who was running third; went around Sheppard to take over the lead and stayed in front until the checker flag waved.

Tim McCreadie entered the race as the series point leader by 40 points over Richards and 75 ahead of Bloomquist. During the race McCreadie suffered two flat tires and Bloomquist had a tire go down while running second to Richards. Bloomquist finished the race in 12th and McCreadie was credited with a 17th place finish.

In Lucas Oil Victory Lane after the biggest win of his career, the 29-year-old was emotional when being interviewed. “I have to collect my thoughts right now. I can’t thank everyone enough for this opportunity. I made a tough decision last year to switch teams. We didn’t know what was going to happen. We started the year off well, and then we went to a bunch of new tracks and kind of fell off a little. We struggled a little bit, but so did those other guys. We got on a hot streak in July though.”

“Coming into this weekend we felt pretty good and I know Scott [Bloomquist] and Timmy [McCreadie] did too. Thanks to Best Performance Motorsports, Eric and Kelly Brock for giving me this opportunity.
It’s been a crazy year. Randall Edwards has done such a great job as crew chief. There are so many people behind this team and that supported me. I felt everything in the last four or five laps. I have been through this scenario enough to know. I knew the tires were slipping away, but fortunately they held up to the end.”

Josh got around me on that restart and he did a good job out in front. I look up to him a lot. I drive for his dad. It’s been a dream come true driving for Mark [Richards], we have had a great year. Being able to learn from Josh has been great. We would have liked to get the win tonight, but there’s nobody else I’d like to finish second to than Josh.”

Davenport, who was sporting the Flintstone Flyer scheme commemorating the late Mike Duvall, came home in third in the G.R. Smith-owned, Rocket Chassis entry. “Congrats to Josh and Brandon on their run tonight. We were good early on. I just don’t have this place down pat yet for some reason. We keep getting closer.”

Completing the top ten were Zack Dohm, Chub Frank, Brandon Overton, Darrell Lanigan, and Dennis Erb Jr.

HAYDEN CAMPBELL WINS EAGLE JET TOP GUN SPRINTS FEATURE AT EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK

GIBSONTON — At East Bay Raceway it was Jamie Tinkham winning in the Mini Sprints, Brian Morgan in the Hobby Stocks, Hayden Campbell in the Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprints, Robert Kissam in the 4 Cylinder Bombers and John Godwin in the Florida Old Time Modifieds.

In the Mini Sprints 15- Lap feature it was Jamie Tinkham picking up another win over second place Derek Donaldson and third place Lee Gower.

In the Hobby Stocks 15-lap feature it was Brian Morgan picking up his fourth win of the year as Jim Baker finished second and Richard Livernois, Jr. finished third.

In the Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprints it was Hayden Campbell picking up the win over Sport Allen who finished second and Matt Kurtz third.

In the Florida Old Time Modifieds it was John Godwin picking up his very first win at East Bay Raceway Park over Jamie Frankland and Dan Darnell.

And in the final feature of the night it was the 4 Cylinder Bombers as Robert Kissam edged out his brother Wayne who finished second while Thomas Adams third.

Action continues this Saturday October 28th it will be a Special Event as the Late Models will go for 50-laps in the Donnie Tanner Memorial make-up event. Also racing will be the V8 Warriors, 4 Cylinder Bombers, Micro Sprints and the Daytona Antique Auto Racing Association.
