CARS Tour Announces Format for SLM $10,000 to Win Mid Atlantic Classic at Orange County Speedway July 22

Mooresville, NC 6/13/17- Just prior to the CARS Tour first race of 2017 at Orange County Speedway on June 24th, the series is proud to announce the format for the $10,000 to win Mid Atlantic Classic on July 22nd. The major event at North Carolina’s fastest 3/8th mile track will feature 100 green flag laps for Late Model Stocks and 150 green flag laps with four different segments for the Super Late Models. The first three segments will pay $500 to win with the final segment paying $10,000.

The inaugural Puryear Tank Lines-Thrifty Tire Centers “Mid Atlantic Classic” pres. by The Grilling Store will award $10,000 to the winner and a minimum of $1,000 to each competitor taking the green flag. Along the way each segment will pay $500 to win on lap 35, 100, and 135. The eight tire optional race will allow competitors a choice to change zero, one, two, three, or four tires under a five minute break period, before being lined up in position based on their strategic tire change choice. In addition, the winners of each segment will be awarded a guaranteed top eight starting position in the final fifteen lap segment to the finish, with the exact positioning to be determined by tires taken.

“I love this format and how it creates strategy and choice for the race teams. It’s very similar to what they use to do at SpeedFest, down in Cordele, for those that were familiar with that format. The only difference is we are creating the opportunity to make that tire change at the conclusion of each segment,” explained Chris Ragle, CARS Tour Series Director. “I think this format creates hard racing early rather than just at the end. A driver could easily win the first segment settle in and make a strategic tire move to battle for the win. The winning move could be winning that first segment. Another plus for Super Late Model competitors is that we only increased the entry fee by $50, that’s it. Everything else is the same price as a normal event. If that’s value, and big money bang for your buck I don’t know what is.”

The CARS Tour will host a 150 lap tune up race at Orange County Speedway on Saturday June 24th in Rougemont, North Carolina for Late Model Stock and Super Late Models leading up to the big event. Entry forms, event schedule, and advance ticket purchase for the Puryear Tank Lines-Thrifty Tire Centers “Mid Atlantic Classic” pres. by The Grilling Store are available at www.carsracingtour.com. Tickets are $17 in advance and $25 at the gate for this major event.

Jason Hiett Wins B J Parker Memorial Southern All Stars At Talladega

EASTABOGA, AL-Jason Hiett of Oxford, AL., scored his second career Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series Victory Saturday night wining the 5th Annual B J Parker Memorial. A 42 lap $4,200 to win race that honored the founder of the Southern All Stars B J Parker. Hiett lead from start to finish, but it was not easy as he had to work his way through some tough lapped traffic and then hold off the advances late in the race of a hard charging Dallas Cooper, Tim Roszell and Austin Horton. Hiett would stretch his lead over the second through fourth trio, but the lapped traffic he used to his advantage, as he worked it to hold those three cars behind him and help slow their momentum down. Cooper did make one last run in final stages of the race but Hiett was just too strong and went on to get his second career series win. Copper improved one spot from his May showing with the series with the second place finish, third to local favorite and multi track champion Tim Roszell of Anniston, Al., fourth place went current Southern All Stars points leader Austin Horton of Newnan, GA., and fifth to Boaz, AL., driver Tim Busha who had his best run with the series in quite a few races.
Finishing in the sixth spot was Todd Morrow who had a strong run heading to the front till a fifth coil broke slowing his momentum, seventh place went to Josh Adkins, eighth to Riley Hickman, ninth T J Reaid and tenth to Chris Noah.

Schatz Fires Off His Big Guns at Knoxville to Join the Winningest Drivers

KNOXVILLE, IA — June 10, 2017 — Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing driver and eight-time World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series Champion Donny Schatz officially joined the ranks of the top-10 winningest drivers at Knoxville Raceway, leading all 25 laps of the Brownells Big Guns Bash night two Feature. The win marks his 25th career win at the 1/2-mile oval, tying him with two-time Track Champion Skip Jackson. It also marks the 10th win of the season for the No. 15 Arctic Cat car.

Much like the previous night, in which Brad Sweet led flag-to-flag, an exciting battle took place behind the leader, resulting in the same three Outlaws to the podium, only slightly rearranged this time with Schatz on top. And he was unusually happy about it.

“We haven’t been on pace the last couple months,” said Schatz. “You keep looking for little things that aren’t right. One thing here. But we found three things. And so, that’s why I’m smiling. I’m a happy guy. I got my feel back. I can feel all four corners again, and that’s important. These guys have put up with me through some not so good moods the last few months, but it feels good to be back in Victory Lane, especially here at Knoxville, and get that win.”

Behind Schatz, David Gravel, Brad Sweet and Ian Madsen fought a tough battled for second and third. A caution on Dakota Hendrickson four laps in gave Madsen the chance he needed to jump past Logan Schuchart, then Daryn Pittman. A second caution — from Jason Sides spinning into the wall in turn one — allowed Gravel to slide inside Sweet, leaving Sweet momentarily at Madsen’s mercy as the two exchanged positions a couple of times almost halfway through the Feature. But Sweet prevailed, and with only eight laps to go pressed on Gravel for second as he got caught in lap traffic.

“It hurt me there,” said Gravel. “I tried to go under Sides, and he slipped off and kind of caught me up a little bit. I thought that was my only chance to even get close to Donny, but I lost ten car lengths in that corner and never really had a shot at him. We’re really happy with how the car is. The track was super super fast tonight. That was a hell of a workout for 25 laps.”

Despite the heat and strong winds, the track was in great condition on night two and did not rubber up at all like the previous night.

“Last night the race track was a little bit different,” said Schatz. “It got abrasive. It was really slick early. It was hard to get a hold of, so yeah, you try things. You don’t get too far away from baseline, but these guys did an incredible job with the race track today. It’s miserable and hard to do this in the heat and the wind, and they did an incredible job, got us two grooves, so hats off to the Duncans for that and just a great night.”

Unfortunately, Sweet was unable to comment after his win, as the heat and the tough workout left him dehydrated and worn out enough to warrant medical attention.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to action on Tuesday for the Eagle Nationals in Eagle, NE. Tickets are available online. The Series will then continue to Schatz’s home state of North Dakota on Friday and Saturday.

VanDoorn Breaks Baer Field Curse with Win in the Summit City 100

Salem, IN (June 11, 2017) – Three time ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS Champion Johnny VanDoorn freely admitted prior to Saturday nights series event at Baer Field Motorsports Park, that race track was one of his least favorites, those thoughts may have changed after VanDoorn came out on top in a tough battle with Dalton Armstrong to get the win in the Summit City 100.

“Wow I can’t believe I won a race here at Baer Field,” remarked a visibly elated VanDoorn in victory lane. “We have never really run very well here and never had any good luck, but everything came together tonight and we parked it in victory lane. I want to thank all the fans that came out for tonight’s race, what a great crowd. We need a lot more of this in short track asphalt racing, I hope fans will come out and support these type of events more!”

The stands were packed on Saturday night as promoters Dave and Jody Muzzillo had one of the biggest events ever held in the recent history of Baer Field Motorsports Park on Saturday as the ARCA/CRA Super Series Summit City 100 was teamed up with the ICAR Outlaw Super Late Models who contested the final Stan Perry Memorial 110 lap event, which was appropriately won by his son Bud Perry and a special 10 car, $10,000 to win Challenge event that was won by Terry Senneker. It was also Baer Field Hall of Fame Induction Night, were former ARCA/CRA Super Series competitor Terry Fisher was inducted into the track’s Hall of Fame. Fisher is the father of current CRA competitor Terry Fisher Jr. (more…)
