South Florida To See History Being Made -Homestead Hosts First Winston Cup Event- -Hialeah Speedway Hosts 200 Lap Late Model Sportsman Race- On November 14 history will be made when the stars of the NASCAR Winston Cup come to the Homestead mile and a half oval in Dade County, Florida. Sunday’s inagural Winston Cup event at the facility will be preceded by the NASCAR Busch Grand National season finale on Saturday afternoon of the 13th. The Winston race will also have another first as NBC gets a shot at televising the top racing series in America. But for Florida short track race fans a special treat is in store for Saturday night. The one-third mile flat racing surface, which opened to fans in 1954, will feature a 200 lap Late Model Sportsman race, expected to draw the top drivers from around the Sunshine State. The special 200 lap event, sponsored by Coca-Cola, already has drivers gearing up lfor the race including Joe Winchell, Rusty Hillman, Former Boston Red Sox's Outfielder Mike Greenwell, former series champion Bobby Beauchemin and many many more. This is the place where Bobby Allison began his racing career at age 17, where Dick Anderson won at least 102 features, where track records ahve been held by Bobby Gill, Robert Hamke, Dick Anderson, Butch Miller and Gary Balough.
