January 15, 1999 Orlando - A slightly cool night tonight but a good night for racing. But I am not so sure the track liked the cool weather as there was some slipping and sliding, bumping and grinding going on. We lost quite a few cars but hopefully, for the drivers and crews' sake, I hope they are not too bad.
In the Late Model Division tonight, we saw the #7 of Debbie Santo with the pole for the heat race. But it was our visitor from Vermont, #86 Dennis Demers, taking the win. Then it was the #25 of R. J. Ramano with the pole for the feature race but once again, #86 took the win. I think it must be that coldnest that Dennis is use to that makes him do so good at Orlando and New Smyrna and it could be too that he is a very nice man. Top five were:
1. #86 - Dennis Demers 2. #7 - Debbie Santo 3. #25 - R. J. Ramano 4. #18 - Jared Allison 5. #81 - Bruce Everett
In the Limited Late Models, we saw the #22 of Larry Osteen with the pole for the heat race and winning from the pole. Larry also had the pole for the feature race but ended up going off the track before the end of the race and then it was #67 of Chad Allman taking the lead and the win. Also tonight we got a treat and saw Scott Bramlett driving Mike Murphy's #26 Limited Late Model. Scott did rearrange the front quarter panel just alittle for Mike but he was able to get the car back into the feature race. But it was nice having Scott with us again. Top five were:
1. #67 - Chad Allman 2. #32 - George Murphy 3. #26 - Scott Bramlett (driving Mike Murphy's car) 4. #82 - Tommy Johnson (really good job tonight Tommy) 5. #71 - Dink Sullivan
In the Modified division we saw a number of new mods take the field. The #14 of John Wills had the pole for the heat race and won from the pole. John also had the pole for the feature race but we saw a very good race for that win. In the end, it was the #22 of Gary Brown (very pretty red car) taking his first win at Orlando SpeedWorld. Top five were:
1. #22 - Gary Brown 2. #68 - Raymond Lovelady 3. #13 - Bill Gunn 4. #65 - Overstreet 5. #8 - Kenny Heckle
In the Sportsman division, we saw the #4 of Ron Blackard with the pole for the heat race and the #04 of Doug Sameon taking the win. Last week at Orlando Doug's car lost a wheel but not this week. It was the #04 of Doug Sameon with the pole for the feature race but a hard charging #57 of Chad Pierce taking the win. Nice job Chad - you worked hard for that win. Top five were:
1. #57 - Chad Pierce 2. #04 - Doug Sameon 3. #2 - Glen Carter 4. #90 - Gary Vivian (that was Gary's new Sportsman - Gary use to drive bombers - nice looking car Gary and good job tonight) 5. #4 - Ron Blackard
In the Mini-Stock division, we saw the #ll of Pedie Allison taking the win in the heat race and the #97 of Kelly Jarrett taking the win in the feature race. Nice job by all. We also got our first look at the new #1 car of Ronnie Watson with Jared Allison driving it tonight in the Mini-Stock race. Top five were:
1. #97 - Kelly Jarrett 2. #11 - Pedie Allison 3. #25 - Wayne Clark 4. #98 - Jeff Davis 5. #00 - Ron Ables
In the Bomber division tonight, we saw the #40 of Dano with the pole for the heat race and winning from the pole. But the #3 of Charles Fry and driven tonight by Bobby Owens and the #0 of Mark Scherer put on a very good job of racing for the second spot. For the feature race, we saw our own Lady Killer #22 Homer Gordon with the pole. But Homer had his hands full holding off a very hard charging #0 and #3 behind him. In the end, it was the #0 of Mark Scherer taking the Bomber win tonight. Top five were:
1. #0 - Mark Scherer 2. #40 - Dano Winnett 3. #3 - Bobby Owens 4. #97 - Jeff Crawford 5. #22 - Homer Gordon
The last race of the night was the runabouts which will see their last race at Orlando SpeedWorld on January 29. When that class comes back, they will be Strictly V-8 Stock and a whole new line of drivers and different cars. Because of this, our present runabout drivers are working very hard for their first wins before the class is gone which made this a very exciting race. We had beating, banging, turn arounds, and spinning outs from the start. But in the end, it was the #63 of Joe Brogan with the win. Top five were:
1. #63 - Joe Brogan 2. #77 - Warren Schurr 3. #17 - new driver and did not have name 4. #22 - new driver and did not have name 5. #69 - Warren Nordell
